About this listen

You know how hard it is to get good advice if you've ever faced an indifferent lifeguard when you complained of an octopus in the public pool; if you've ever accidentally sprayed your face with gold paint and were afraid of being mistaken for a false idol; or if your husband failed to notice that you'd replaced yourself with a manikin. These and other common problems are addressed in Dear Babalu: Letters to an Advice Columnist, by Peter J. Manos.

I do not even know where to begin telling you all how much I truly enjoyed listening to this book.
It has become one of my favourite books. Dr. Peter Manos not only wrote it well, but the way he reads it is really exceptional. After a little while, you do not hear Dr. Manos’s voice, but those of his characters. His characters range from chanting babies to old ladies. I have listened to it more times than I care to admit, every time I hear it, I gain even more insight into the characters, and additional nuances of the questions asked of “Dear Babalu”. Some of the advice sought, people would not be willing to ask individuals they knew…. But they feel comfortable asking anonymously from an advice columnist. “Babalu’s answers range from sarcasm to utter disbelief. As well as being able to actually answer some of them seriously.
As I said, this book was a joy to listen to, he really gives life to all his characters. Taking them from two dimensional characters of a book page, to breathing life into them.
This book made me laugh countless times, I have enjoyed listening to it to the point of almost obsession. And will probably listen to it again and again.
