About this listen

When you've lost literally everything but your own life, can you learn to be loved or will you give up fighting the negative voice in your head and finally lose yourself completely?

Nora Hart is twenty-four years old, but she's lost everything, rebuilt her life, fought through grief and worse, all while managing to avoid the shifter world that broke her in the first place.

Despite her near death and struggle for survival all on her own, she's done quite well and has created a pretty normal life for herself. Despite all that, fate isn't done messing with her.

Her heart and soul aren't ready to open up to new mates, and may never be, but fate has brought them into her life anyway, causing her to move across the country as she tries to deny her connections and keep some semblance of the life she's created.

Not only that, but that little voice in her head begging for death is back stronger than ever, those from her past who broke her down are back for more, and now she's being hunted by humans out to rid the world of shifters.

Will she be strong enough to get through all of this, to find herself again and have a happy life, or will her struggle finally come to an end?

Death is Easy is the first installment in the Second Chances trilogy. This series is a medium-burn reverse harem romance, and there is a guaranteed HEA at the end of the third book.

She's so freaking whiny

I paid my hard earned money for this book because the reviews made it seem way better than it is. Too much time is spent listening to the FMC whine about her wolf and lack of trauma, that she clearly has, before she's willing to do anything about it. I won't be finishing the book.

Just okay

This was just okay for me. I feel like she is weak and not much chemistry with the guys. It drags but finally the last few minutes got good. Hopefully book 2 is better than this. Both narrators did a good job.

Enjoyed this RH with so many different shifters!

This was my first book from this author and I am already onboard with this series and cannot wait for more to come out on audio. I will say the story was 4.5-5 out of 5 stars from me but I was not a fan of one of the male narrators. I was confused about some of the guys, some of their voices were not my favorite and kept taking me out of the story. The female narrator did a great job and really brought this world to life for me. I think some of the accents felt off/forced which is why I wasn't sold on the audio completely.

In terms of the story, we have a lot jam packed into book one of this series (trilogy I think?). I felt bad for Nora because of how her family treated her, her original alpha, and then the people who keep coming after her. She never catches a break and she keeps trying to do it on her own but ultimately it becomes too much. I will say read the trigger warnings. I wasn't expecting something (the audiobook doesn't actually go over any of the TWs so just be aware) so I know it could be triggering for some so just want to put that out there. I felt how her and her wolf were at odds. Some things weren't smooth for me in terms of the writing but I could overlook it because the idea of this story and the characters were so gripping. I enjoyed how she added mates as the book went along and how different they all are. The author does a good job describing them and their personalities so I could easily tell who was who in the audio.

The romance, chemistry, steam was well done in this one. It can't be a fast burn with how damaged Nora is and I appreciated how the author grew their feelings and letting things get further with some of them. I loved the different personalities, especially the protective and cuddling bear (who cooks and wants to be a caretaker) to the goofy ones (like our tiger and the newest member who I won't spoil). I liked how they come together and don't always get along haha. I enjoyed the hierarchy in the pride too. I thought the author thought a lot about how this world was going to work and it showed. I was still confused about what each of the guys does for the pride/company but I am hoping it becomes more clear in book 2. I enjoyed the side characters as well, especially her therapist who is now connected to her and her guys hahaha. Again won't spoil it. I hated the slimey coworker and am intrigued by the hunters. More to come in book 2. OH and I cannot wait for her former mate and her sister to get their comeuppance (and her parents). I am interested to see how things with her brother pan out though.

I definitely will be checking out book 2 once it drops on audio and will be adding this author to my list to check out others in their catalog. Enjoyed this RH paranormal start to this series (tropes: rejected mates, friends to lovers, possessive and protective alphas, good blend of different shifters, touch her and d!e, cinnamon roll MMC, grumpy/sunshine (she is the grumpy at some points haha), etc.).

Very Mixed feelings on this one

This is a new author for me. I have not read nor listened to anything else, so I am not familiar with her style. The storyline has a lot of potential, but I feel it is falling short on what the heroine is going through. The narrators do an amazing job, especially Matt and Evan. The mates are very intriguing- I love their personalities, and i understand that Nora has been rejected by her mate. However, I do not understand the implied trauma that caused. It seems the book starts with overwhelming attraction between Kennedy and Nora when they identify as mates, but he immediately flips sides and rejects her. Supposedly she is a weak wolf, but I think we need more background info on why she is considered weak. Especially, since her OG mate chooses her sister to be his mate (You find this out later.) Then the book seems to skip whatever major trauma experienced being rejected because the book jumps to her working in a new law firm that is going well and this is where she meets her mate. Well, the first one that is. It seems every man she runs into is her mate. She ends up with the king of the pride, 2 tigers, a bear, a fox, and then before the book is over- a griffin. They all fall over her to show her love and affection,- yet she is so traumatized that she wants to kill herself. I just do not see that level of trauma in this book. It's like it;s from a high schooler's point of view, where everything is a bit blown out of portion drama. It intrigues me enough that i would like to see where the second book goes.

Great team of narrators for a story that is not really my cup of tea

I like the great story telling that was done by the the narrators. The story, meanwhile, is very slow and waaaaay too much crying for my liking. FMC is really hard to like. Sorry, I shall pass on the next book.

Emotional Rollercoaster

This had so many emotions. You could not help but feel for the MFC. Her family and mate are horrible. This emotional rollercoaster is the first book and will leave you wanting. I look forward to her family and ex-mate getting what they deserve or at least that is what I am hoping to see happen.

Good potential

Death is Easy (Second Chances #1) is a paranormal, why choose romance.

This story has really good potential. The book was a bit repetitive, and I felt no real connection between Nora and her mates. I did enjoy the heroes though. I good variety of personalities that made the world interesting. I would like to see where book 2 leads.

Ash Kingsley and Matt Haynes did a good job narrating this story.

Stuck

Rejected by her fated mate and thrown out of her Pack on her 18th birthday, Nora spent the next several months surviving and the next six years trying to build a life for herself. If she couldn't be happy, at least she could be useful, and make others' lives better. Then her billionaire boss noticed her on a visit to her branch office and his lion claimed her as his mate. Atticus Phoenix is the Alpha of one of the most powerful packs in the country. Not only does he claim her but his inner circle of tiger brothers, a bear, a fox shifter, and a griffin do as well. Nora has collected quite a family pack. If only it mattered. Nora lost her wolf after she was rejected, and when her former mate reappears, she finds herself destroyed once again.

I work at a Behavioral Health Center. Nora was written realistically, however realistic doesn't make it entertaining. Her depression was overwhelming, consuming, and repetitive. Her feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness make her a hard character to want to spend time with. I was hoping she could pull herself out of the hole with the help of her pack and therapy but it only got worse. I'm not saying the author needed to cure her mental state in 3 chapters but I think there could have been light spots sprinkled here and there to give me a reason to continue turning the pages. Because Nora is stuck, there is no plot development, no character development, and no relationship development. Because she is stuck, everything is stuck. It's mentally exhausting. I also think there are too many mates introduced in too short of a time frame making the connections suffer. Still, this is secondary to the lead female problem. I will give this series one more try to see if there is any forward movement.

Matt Haynes, Evan Henderson, and Ash Kingsley did an acceptable job narrating this story. It was a bit overdramatic, and the whining was annoying, but they had to work with the story they were given.

Death Is Easy

Death Is Easy is the first book in the Second Chances series. This is the first book I have read by Letty Frame. This book was a bit tricky to get through. Defiantly need to Check Trigger Warnings.

Ash Kingsley, Matt Haynes, and Evan Henderson did a great job narrating this book.
