About this listen

When you've lost literally everything but your own life, can you learn to be loved or will you give up fighting the negative voice in your head and finally lose yourself completely?

Nora Hart is twenty-four years old, but she's lost everything, rebuilt her life, fought through grief and worse, all while managing to avoid the shifter world that broke her in the first place.

Despite her near death and struggle for survival all on her own, she's done quite well and has created a pretty normal life for herself. Despite all that, fate isn't done messing with her.

Her heart and soul aren't ready to open up to new mates, and may never be, but fate has brought them into her life anyway, causing her to move across the country as she tries to deny her connections and keep some semblance of the life she's created.

Not only that, but that little voice in her head begging for death is back stronger than ever, those from her past who broke her down are back for more, and now she's being hunted by humans out to rid the world of shifters.

Will she be strong enough to get through all of this, to find herself again and have a happy life, or will her struggle finally come to an end?

Death is Easy is the first installment in the Second Chances trilogy. This series is a medium-burn reverse harem romance, and there is a guaranteed HEA at the end of the third book.

Just okay

This was just okay for me. I feel like she is weak and not much chemistry with the guys. It drags but finally the last few minutes got good. Hopefully book 2 is better than this. Both narrators did a good job.

Great team of narrators for a story that is not really my cup of tea

I like the great story telling that was done by the the narrators. The story, meanwhile, is very slow and waaaaay too much crying for my liking. FMC is really hard to like. Sorry, I shall pass on the next book.

Disappointed, BiG Trigger

The story line in itself is good, HOWEVER , repeatable woes is me and life is hard, was just too much. If you have depression this story will put you right back there. You spiral down with the uncertainty of ones life, but it was constant and it just got to the point where it was annoying. I guess the author ran out of words because of the repeatitiveness. As much as I want to know what happens, not purchase the next book. The narrators were ridiculous in the way the spoke. grunting all the time and whinny. I really tried to get into it but it was painful.

Stuck

Rejected by her fated mate and thrown out of her Pack on her 18th birthday, Nora spent the next several months surviving and the next six years trying to build a life for herself. If she couldn't be happy, at least she could be useful, and make others' lives better. Then her billionaire boss noticed her on a visit to her branch office and his lion claimed her as his mate. Atticus Phoenix is the Alpha of one of the most powerful packs in the country. Not only does he claim her but his inner circle of tiger brothers, a bear, a fox shifter, and a griffin do as well. Nora has collected quite a family pack. If only it mattered. Nora lost her wolf after she was rejected, and when her former mate reappears, she finds herself destroyed once again.

I work at a Behavioral Health Center. Nora was written realistically, however realistic doesn't make it entertaining. Her depression was overwhelming, consuming, and repetitive. Her feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness make her a hard character to want to spend time with. I was hoping she could pull herself out of the hole with the help of her pack and therapy but it only got worse. I'm not saying the author needed to cure her mental state in 3 chapters but I think there could have been light spots sprinkled here and there to give me a reason to continue turning the pages. Because Nora is stuck, there is no plot development, no character development, and no relationship development. Because she is stuck, everything is stuck. It's mentally exhausting. I also think there are too many mates introduced in too short of a time frame making the connections suffer. Still, this is secondary to the lead female problem. I will give this series one more try to see if there is any forward movement.

Matt Haynes, Evan Henderson, and Ash Kingsley did an acceptable job narrating this story. It was a bit overdramatic, and the whining was annoying, but they had to work with the story they were given.
