About this listen

It started when I died.

Not many people can say they woke up dead. Even fewer people wake up as ghosts. Guess I’m the unlucky one since no one can see or hear me, and I have no recollection of how I ended up like this.

I thought I’d spend the afterlife alone… until him. The solitary man who stumbled across me during my restless wandering of the Scottish Highlands. He doesn’t want me around. I can’t seem to stay away.

It turns out Ciaran has a dark secret. And I’m determined to discover exactly what he’s hiding even if it might mean the death of me all over again.

A standalone dark paranormal romance novella with a very unconventional HEA.

This is a DARK romance and therefore comes with a content warning. Please see authors website for full details.

Amazing dark romance with the sexiest Highlander guy voice!

I loved this Dark paranormal romance and was completely spellbound by the expert duet narration and the surprising plot twists. In this book an English lady wakes up dead as a ghost with no memory of how she got that way, and she wanders around until she meets the one person who can see her, a grumpy Highland guy who is an artist and farm manager. I correctly predicted the first plot twist, but not the rest of them.

The superb duet narration really elevated the text. The male narrator has the most toe-curlingly sexy Highland brogue. It was quite an experience when he talks dirty to the heroine. The female narrator has a beautiful voice that I love to listen to. Both narrators have excellent pacing, emoting, accents, sense of humor, and everything.

Beware that there are a bunch of twisted triggers in this book, but all of the sexual encounters are consensual. Spicy stuff. The character(s) have deadly tendencies. Also, I was thrilled by the twisty plot that has some cool plot elements seemingly inspired by a few books from my favorite series, Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark. Fans of Kresley Cole will enjoy this “Death, Unwinding”.

Death, Unwinding

This is my first book that I read from Sarah Bailey. I did not know what to expect. I really enjoyed this book.

Zoey Baxter and Freddie Willis did a great job narrating this book.

Interesting story. Incredible narration & producti

This started out intriguing, then took a very predictable turn. It remained interesting for a little while, despite the lack of originality, and at some point, it evolved into straight 🌽. Not bad by any means, but some of it wasn’t exactly my cup of tea. I do prefer a plot.

I’m not sure the synopsis set the proper expectation, as it implies there’s a plot and the advertised ‘secret’ was pretty obvious from a few sentences in—at least to me. Perhaps, not to everyone?

I’m not unhappy about having tried a new-to-me author. This was a quick, dirtyish read with some dark themes and a pair of twisted leads. (I do enjoy twisted—who doesn’t?)

I’m not sure I can list out the tropes / tr!gg3rs / other attributes without massive censorship here—so do your own research if anything may be an issue for you. (For me, that right there is a major green flag—love me some tr1gg3r$.)

Overall:
Twisted.
Fun at times.
Quick, standalone.
Alternating, first-person POV.

*Those are all good qualities, IMO so a couple hours well spent.
3.5 stars.

Dark with a twist

I was not expecting to love this as much as I did. It's a paranormal romance with a twist. It kept me intrigued from the very beginning and the further in I got I couldn't put it down. It is definitely not what you're expecting and I loved it.

The audio was so good. The narrators did a great job bringing the characters to life.

Different

This is different than my usual read. It gave me The Ghost and Mrs. Muir vibes. The performance was great. The story was almost repetitive at first. Saying the same The over and over again. It got so much better. I liked it overall.

Not expecting this book...

This is the first book I've read/listened to by Sarah Bailey. It was not what I was expecting. At first I wasn't sure about it, but the twist made this book.

Zoe Baxter and Freddie Wills are excellent narrators. They brought this audiobook to life. Love their performances.

Fantastic narration!

Zoe Baxter & Freddie Wills really brought this book to life. I already knew what was going to happen, but with their narration I was so into the story that I was gasping when the big reveal happened. Their accents were also wonderful.

🖤🖤🖤

This standalone paranormal romance novella presents a darker tone and features an unconventional happily ever after. I truly appreciate Sarah's unique approach in this story, setting it apart from her other dark romance works.

Marlie suddenly awakens to the realization that she is dead, though she remains clueless about the circumstances surrounding her demise. Instead of dwelling on her situation, she opts to "travel" and explore the sights she has always dreamed of. For some inexplicable reason, she is drawn to a farm where she encounters a man who can not only see her but also engage in conversation.

Ciaran is assisting at his uncle's farm when he unexpectedly meets someone who surprises him. Both characters harbor deep secrets, and the plot twists are truly captivating!

Are you ready to immerse yourself in this audiobook adventure? Put on your headphones and allow the enchanting voices of Zoe Baxter and Freddie Wills to take you on this exhilarating journey!

Dark paranormal

Marlie is dead. No one can see her or hear her. She’s been wandering around exploring places but getting so lonely. There’s something tugging her to a certain place and there she meets a man who can see and talk to her. She stalks him following him and keeps trying to learn more about him. About why he’s able to see her and talk with her. He keeps asking her if she wants to know how she died but she’s too afraid to learn the truth.

This was a dark paranormal story with a fun twist and things get hot and heavy for them. The two narrators brought the characters to life and did a fantastic job with the accents. It’s a fun quick read but be ware of the triggers.
