About this listen

Having decided to redecorate Woodside Cottage, Jude engages the services of local man Pete, who painted and decorated the homes of Fethering residents for many years. Pete is currently working on Footscrow House, a large Victorian building that is being converted into holiday flats by a local developer.

Having arranged to meet at Fiasco House, as it is known locally due to the many failed business enterprises over the years, Jude and Pete make a surprising discovery behind a wall panel: a woman's handbag! The casual discovery becomes serious when the police identify the handbag's owner as Anita Garner, a young woman who vanished under suspicious circumstances twenty years earlier.

Determined to find out what really happened to Anita all those years ago, Jude and her neighbor, Carole, investigate—and are plunged into a maze of deception and murder.

Love Simon Brett’s narration!

Thank goodness the author narrates his own books. Love his characters and their voices and personalities. Perfect cozy mystery.

Another solid entry in a favorite series

If you've been following the Fethering series, you will want to read this one. If not, starting at the beginning would be a better way to understand the dynamic between Carole and Jude, which is central to the books.

Love the series, this particular but slightly less

I love this series. I didn’t like this particular book quite as much as usual although the dialogue in some areas is unbelievably funny. Narrator fantastic as always

Love these books, but not the sniffing

I adore these books and always love when an author is the narrator, but Simon Brett's producer really really should help us out here. hearing every inhale was super distracting and quite unnecessary. Misophoniacs may need to skip this one.

Another fine outing in Fethering

Brett, as both writer & narrator, gives us another look at Carol & Jude sleuthing in the village. Good plotting, well developed characters, clear narration.

The sniffling narrator killed this book

I tried so hard to get through this book. The big sniffs at the end of sentences drove me nuts! I like this series, but I do wish Caroline would lose her ridiculous attitudes, attempt to try her hand at an open mind and exhibit a little more personal growth!!!
