About this listen

When a popular Woodinville, Washington winemaker is found dead in his warehouse winery, rookie police officer Kally O'Keefe is put on the case. O'Keefe is perfect for the role: She, too, is a winemaker - that's her part-time gig in her own Wine Babe Cellars. But the department's major crimes detective, Robert Riggs, providing procedural advice in the case, doesn't see it that way. He's none too pleased about being named second in command to a rookie. O'Keefe knows she can't solve the case without Riggs's vast investigative knowledge. And he can't navigate the world of wine without her. Somehow this unlikely duo pulls it together to crack one of Woodinville's biggest wine crimes - right in Seattle's back yard.

The story started out slow but I ended up loving this audiobook. I even cried when a certain person turns up, and I usually don't cry when I read mysteries. Kirsten McCory's performance of the story was flawless and easy to listen to. The police officer, Kally, is also a winemaker so even though she is a rookie, she is put in charge of the investigation of another winemaker's death (murder). The author smoothly ties together many characters and clues along with educating the reader about winemaking and winetasting. You even feel like sampling some wine while you are listening. I can't wait to visit Woodinville's wineries. Kally seems kind of ordinary at first but soon I found her very appealing. I enjoyed her diplomatic handling of the older more experienced policemen she has to work with who obviously think they could do a better job. But she persists and solves the crime. You are rooting for her by the end and the conclusion is very satisfying.

Excellent performance of enjoyable mystery story,

Death at 21 Brix: A Warehouse Winery Mystery is boring and slow paced. The characters were flat and unengaging. I couldn't finish it.
