Publisher's summary

A new home can bring new friends...new adventures...and new dangers.

Boone Fischer and Emily Durand have settled down in the Turks and Caicos—specifically, the picturesque island of Grand Turk. But a chance encounter with a dive boat from a nearby island leads them to pull up stakes again, if only temporarily. The couple take the Lunasea across to South Caicos—The Big South—an island with a rich history...not all of it virtuous.

An unidentified body discovered in an underwater cave system may have been the victim of a murder, but the manner of death is bizarre. Boone and Emily find themselves in the ensnared by events once more, but resolving this mystery may come at a steep price.

Nick Sullivan is Outstanding as both Author…

… and narrator. I did not receive this book for free and have no other reason to give it a 5 Star review other than that the author deserves it. This is the 6th book in this standalone series. I like listening to books in order for some continuity in character development however if you’ve never listened to any of the books in this series, this is a fine place to begin. I can almost guarantee you will want to go back and listen to the previous books once you’ve listened to one.
Boone Fischer and Emily Durandare back for a new adventure! They’ve moved to a new island of Grand Turk but end up taking a trip to South Caicos. While there Boone does have more than one altercation and being a man of few words is actually able to speak his way out of one of them becoming physical. For him, his stature often does the speaking for him.
When a body turns up being found murdered mysteriously it becomes even more mysterious when a pouch is found in the body’s mouth. It’s generally used to ward off evil but obviously not for this man. Boone and Emily suspect a wealthy secretive Russian might be behind the death but they must be able to prove it.
Nick Sullivan’s depiction of the area and the people is so brilliantly detailed. Having never been to the Caribbean islands I would have no idea what the area looks like. With the details he provides I can picture every place in my mind. From the local bars and restaurants to the locals who live there and even the bodies that pop up occasionally.
Aside from the descriptiveness the story and characters are believable. The plot is plausible and makes sense. There’s actually a story here that I could believe.
Sullivan’s own narration is of course spot on. I’ve enjoyed listening to him over the years, his accents are absolutely great.
This book has my VERY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Excellent Storytelling

I am continuously surprised and blown away by the storytelling ability of Nick Sullivan. The best part about a narrator becoming an author is they know how to write AND perform the story. Nick's been doing this for multiple books now, but every new story in The Deep series has gotten better and better. The way Sullivan can intertwine his local (and researched) knowledge of these areas with his knowledge of diving is tough to beat.

Deep Hex is a bit of a slow build, but once it starts up, it STARTS UP. Sullivan really packed quite a bit into this one. Having me trying to figure things out early and guessing what the heck was going on multiple times. I love when a book can baffle me this much, even after reading multiple books by Sullivan himself. He's still able to keep me guessing.

I think the heart and soul of these books are the humor, though. Sure, they have the Michael Bay stuff blowing up and the masterful storytelling. But the heart of these characters, especially Emily, is their ability to make jokes and the most inappropriate time. It breaks me every time. The ability to do that and not bring me out of the story is nothing short of masterful.

It's getting harder and harder to give any info about these books without any spoilers, but just know that even though it's a new island. Boone and Emily are in for it in Deep Hex. And if you've read every other book in this series - you're in for a treat. Another home run for Sullivan. I couldn't put it down.

Best Deep So Far

The Derp series gets better and better. The characters get richer with each adventure. Love the little local details. Dive at 4 of the 6 locations. Fun to remember and check out new spots. Anxious for next addition.

Love this series!

I absolutely love this series! I'm always in the mood for an awesome Caribbean adventure with Boone and Emily! (and occasionally their other friends from other series by other authors) This time their story takes place in the Turks and Caicos. What I love most about this series is the history and cultures I learn about while enjoying a good story. As I write this review, I'm enjoying a Ting! If you've followed this series or like Jamaican food, you'll know what it is! Thanks Nick Sullivan for another great book and another great narration! Looking forward to the next story!

Great book

Nick Sullivan did a terrific job. His writing is excellent and his performance is exceptional. His depiction of the geographic areas was extremely accurate as viewed from a person who has lived throughout the Caribbean and visited all the places he discussed.
