About this listen

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY LIBRARY JOURNAL

In Robin York’s sizzling debut, a college student is attacked online and must restore her name—and stay clear of a guy who’s wrong for her, but feels so right.

When Caroline Piasecki’s ex-boyfriend posts their sex pictures on the Internet, it destroys her reputation as a nice college girl. Suddenly her once-promising future doesn’t look so bright. Caroline tries to make the pictures disappear, hoping time will bury her shame. Then a guy she barely knows rises to her defense and punches her ex to the ground.

West Leavitt is the last person Caroline needs in her life. Everyone knows he’s shady. Still, Caroline is drawn to his confidence and swagger—even after promising her dad she’ll keep her distance. On late, sleepless nights, Caroline starts wandering into the bakery where West works. They hang out, they talk, they listen. Though Caroline and West tell each other they’re “just friends,” their feelings intensify until it becomes impossible to pretend. The more complicated her relationship with West gets, the harder Caroline has to struggle to discover what she wants for herself—and the easier it becomes to find the courage she needs to fight back against the people who would judge her.

When all seems lost, sometimes the only place to go is deeper.

Critic reviews

“[Robin] York’s beautiful prose and vivid descriptions enhance the realism and impact of Caroline and West’s story. Deeper and Harder are sensual and profoundly moving. The books are told in first-person from both Caroline’s and West’s POVs, and I sat on the emotional roller coaster right beside them as West learns to hold tight to Caroline and embrace life to the fullest. . . . They are books I will cherish.”—Lea Franczak, USA Today

Deeper perfectly captured me. Robin York masterfully tells this story with the perfect balance in tone and realistic characters that I’m still thinking about days later. One of the best written New Adult novels, hands down!”—Cora Carmack, New York Times bestselling author of Losing It

“Bursting with chemistry, emotion, and heart, Caroline and West’s story will take your breath away!”—Katy Evans, New York Times bestselling author of the REAL series

Loved this book!

Deeper is a great book. I felt really pulled into these characters and I really enjoyed the listen. I didn't want it to end. I absolutely fell in love with West and Caroline is fantastic as well. And the book deals with a crazy, horrific issue (revenge porn) that I knew nothing about but I now do. There were parts of this book that made me very sad and I also laughed aloud at times. I thought the narrators did a great job of capturing these characters, especially the male narrator. It had a sweetness and a depth that was touching. I loved how Caroline, through a very challenging issue, found herself and I loved how the relationship between West and Caroline developed slowly and beautifully. I was really surprised by this book. I am very much looking forward to book 2!

Revenge Porn done well here

I only read this book because I won book 2 Harder from librarything and I'm so glad that I did. This audiobook grabbed my attention from page one.

Caroline Piasecki was a college student who decided that after 3 yrs with her first boyfriend . He decides to get revenge by posting intimate pictures of her on social media. Caroline was devastated and confused as to what she could do because she now feels like anyone she'll meet, any potential job opportunity or even family friends would have seen her naked.

Resident bad boy West Leavitt encourages Caroline to stop hiding and fight back by living her life. They develop a friendship but she learns West has deeper issues than she does. Can she help him live again, the way he has helped her?

This book felt like it was fast paced in some arenas, then slow in other areas. I liked Caroline and I liked West. They were both survivors. Caroline was betrayed by her ex boyfriend and West was betrayed by his parents, both had to learn to trust again. Nice story and I look forward to book 2.

Excellent story and performance

Where does Deeper: A Novel rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is by far the best story that I have listened to.

Any additional comments?

This is a great story! Caroline, a straight A student is targeted with revenge porn by her ex-boyfriend. Her unlikely champion West fight everything within himself to avoid becoming friends, much less falling in love with Caroline.

Such a great story of two people from two totally different backgrounds coming together to make life worth living.

Emotion-Tugging, Thought Provoking Reality...

This book took me by surprise. It was a bit slow paced, and it might be off putting to some but I for one devoured every word. I absolutely adored the writing style and the fact that it was written in dual POVs. The story follows Caroline a nineteen year old college student who happened to be ostracized by whole university, because her ex – boyfriend broke her trust and published her naked pictures online. That day her plain ordinary life is shattered all with one click on the internet. She knew she shouldn't have let her boyfriend take those intimate pictures, but she loved him, she trusted him. The last thing she expects when she breaks up with him is for those very pictures to appear on the internet. This was the beginning of a very long, very dark chapter in Caroline's life. Not only is she plagued with the knowledge of everyone having seen her during such an intimate act, she's ashamed, haunted by the voices of the men who call her vile names, describe the repulsive things they'd do to her in comments, making her wary of anyone that looks her way. This is not something that ever goes away. The thoughts & feelings she has for herself afterwards are pretty heartbreaking. She finds that her dreams & aspirations are in jeopardy all due to her ex-boyfriend’s need for revenge. Along comes West Leavitt who isn't exactly the person he's made Caroline think he is. Known around campus for dealing pot and random hookups, he's doing everything he can to not get involved, but he can't keep his fists to himself when Caroline's ex starts making comments about what he's done. West is the kind of guy you wouldn’t really want to bring home to meet your father, especially if he is a judge, as it is in Caroline’s case. But when you look past all those things, and as the book develops, you see the reasons for the things he has to do, you realize he is actually a good-guy whose hidding behind his bad boy charm. He really has the best of intentions but has been stuck with a crappy set of circumstances. West is just a guy from the wrong side of the tracks. He didn't have a good upbringing and he's very secretive about his past. He has a precise plan to follow which is to make a better life for himself so he take care of his baby sister, Frankie. She is his reason to be a better man. He attends the same college as Caroline. West juggles multiple jobs and goes to school. He has absolutely no room for distractions like falling in love with a girl like Caroline. But yet something draws these two broken people together. Caroline is drawn to West but he won't let her in. He doesn't have time for a relationship, or even a friend. But the chemistry is undeniable and when they are alone together, sparks ignite. They find solace in each other. I loved their banter and fun-loving relationship; they're so different from each other, yet fit so right together. This isn’t a book about insta-love; it is about the development of a relationship under extraordinary circumstances. It takes place over months, and West for the most part tries to keep it in the friend-zone. Its sad to see how deeply the both of them are damaged, and the horrendous reasons why, it also shows just how good they are together and what one gives to the other in the way of support on an emotional level. I immensely enjoyed the ‘sexy times’. Robin York’s done a great job in describing sensual, steamy between the sheets action and I devoured this part of the story. All in all, we've got a fantastic mix of humor, romance, friendship but also a deeply depressing, emotional reality with an important very serious message. Deeper goes right to the heart of this issue and gives you an up-close and personal account of someone who is actually living with the after effects of having explicit pictures plastered over the internet, by someone who claims to have cared for her and that was in a position of trust. I found this book worthly of the credit I spent on it.

Horrible narrators….

3 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was my first book by Robin York and I am still unsure if I like her writing style. What I do know, is that I won’t be continuing to the next book, because the story just didn’t keep my interest. It was definitely a very slow paced story that near the end I started skimming the pages just to get finished.

If I had to describe Caroline my first thought would be hot mess. She just wasn’t consistent in what she thought or projected. For example one minute she’s worried that the men that seen her on the internet are all calling her a slut, but then she’s having sex in public in a library not caring who sees. Taken selfies and sending them to her friends.. it just didn’t make sense with what she was supposedly going through.

West gave me whiplash with his mood swings. The guy didn’t know what he wanted. Which made him a frustrating character. His reasoning for not letting Caroline in was weak and by time he let her in I just didn’t care anymore.

If I’m being honest, I believe the audiobook narrators ruined this book for me also, they both were so robotic it just was awful. No emotions whatsoever in either of their voices. Lynde Houck ruined every sex scene. Mike Chamberlain voice wasn’t a good fit for West. They both were horrible, it’s no wonder they both don’t have many romance audiobooks in their names.

Note to Robin York, if you ever get a chance to redo the audiobooks with different narrators maybe look into Andi Arndt or Maxine Mitchell for Caroline and Zachary Webber or Teddy Hamilton for West.
I’m sure your readers would be much happier…

Don’t want to finish.

This book is so monotonous and boring. There’s no intrigue and no fondness of characters on my part. I just want them to get on with it! Then I realized that this is only Book 1 so there’s hours and hours more before some kind of ending occurs! I am always addicted to most of the books I listen to. This one I don’t want to even turn on!

Feels like After all over again.

Another bad boy/good girl story when the guy treats the girl like crap for stupid reasons and the girl loves him anyway. Way too wordy. I don’t care to read book 2.
