Publisher's summary

Love is a life-and-death risk for the Mountain Mercenaries in New York Times best-selling author Susan Stoker’s explosive series of alpha heroes, hot action, and hard passion....

Ever since his rescue op off the Pacific Coast, Mountain Mercenary Gray Rogers hasn’t been able to forget his latest “job”—Allye Martin. Any other woman would have panicked during a rescue, but the wily dancer kept her cool—even after being kidnapped by an elusive human trafficker. And Gray couldn’t be happier when a grateful Allye follows him home to Colorado Springs.... For Allye, finding sanctuary in the arms—and bed—of the former Navy SEAL is only temporary. People are disappearing off the streets of San Francisco, victims of the same underground trade that targeted her, and Allye could be the key to dismantling the entire operation. She’s willing to do anything to bring them down. Gray isn’t—for good reason. But you don’t say no to a tough girl like Allye who refuses to play it safe. Now Gray is risking more than ever before. The Mountain Mercenaries have his back. But is it enough to keep the woman he loves out of harm’s way?

Not a bad start to another badass series

Allye has been kidnapped. She’s not sure by whom or why, but it’s her lucky day that a savior appeared out of nowhere. Gray is on a mission to bring down a human trafficking ring and while following a lead he comes face to face with a beauty that wasn’t supposed to be there. While saving her is a given, he isn’t prepared for how much he will want to protect her and keep her safe. Unfortunately, the one man who paid for her to be his won’t stop searching for her and killing anyway in his way.

I enjoyed the book and it’s an excellent start to the series. The only issue I had was how could Allye go back to her life while the man who had her kidnapped was still on the loose? This baffled me from the start. Otherwise, meeting all of the mercenaries and learning a little about each one is going to be a thrilling ride.

Defending Allye

This was a great start for this series. It is a suspense that has a dark element to it. Allye was kidnapped off the streets of San Francisco one night and found herself of a boat chained to a bed. Gray was on a mission of getting information on a known human trafficker. He found her on the boat after he had taken care of the two men and got her off before it sank. Their story revolved around an unknown TB who sold women into slavery. This has dark information that could trigger someone. I was intrigued by the story line and the narration.

Loved it!

This was a great listen. It kept me interested throughout. What’s not to love about a strong, caring man and a strong, stubborn, loving woman. Did I mention that they both have issues. Sounds like a recipe for a good story and it was.

WARNING triggers... From page one to the last page of the book. We were introduced to Mountain Mercenaries in book 4 of Ace Security... Knowing how wonderful that series was I knew I couldn't let this series go... The only bad thing about this series is "I have to wait for December for book 2 to come out" 😭 hope it is also going to be available in audio... 🎧

An instant click author does it again!

I adore all of Susan Stoker's work and was thrilled a new series was starting. I was not disappointed. Her leads are all smart and capable- no shallow silly women here. The men are alpha and protective, but sensitive and real too. She has had some truly evil bad guys before and this one, wow, is among the worst. She is not exploitative in her storytelling which I appreciate. She weaves an amazing story that keeps you listening. Very minor grip, I hate the narrators Rex voice. I know it is supposed to be computer modified or something, but damn was it annoying-- luckily there is not a lot of dialogue). Totally worth a credit!

interesting

i enjoy stories about men that were military trained and use that knowledge for the better. i thought Alley was a very interesting character. Her opening up to Grey that first night about her childhood was a nice way for them to bond. Her being calm an thinking to grab that flash drive could possibly help save many more women and children.

human trafficking & bad guys...par for the course

Grayson, one of the Mountain Mercenaries, is a likeable guy...unless you're a bad guy, then he's your worst nightmare! Grayson is on a recon mission when he rescues Allye. Allye had been kidnapped outside of the dance theatre and was on her way to an unknown destination when she is rescued by Gray. The pair get to know each other while treading water for a couple of hours waiting on Gray's pick up. However, once they're on land, Gray leaves Allye never to be seen again...or will he? Allye had swiped the thumb drive that her captor was using just before the boat sunk...she decides to contact Mountain Mercenaries and hand it over. When Allye shows up in Denver, it is to Gray's surprise, since his boss had made the arrangements for Allye. The team decides that it's best for Allye to remain with them while they investigate the information on the drive. When Allye's substitute dancer turns up dead, mutilated and made to look like her, the team realizes that the notorious human trafficker, known as Nightingale, is behind Allye's attempted kidnapping. As with all of Ms. Stoker's books, we have equal amounts of romance and suspense and this one does not disappoint! We eventually have an HEA but not before more murders and the evil guy getting his way...or so it appears. This is another winner in my book!

Great read

Absolutely loved the story!! Characters were very well written and this was a great start to the series! I will definitely be checking out the rest of this series. It pulled you in from beginning to end and connects you to all the characters. I loved Allye's strength she had and it is what really drew Gray to her at first. I loved watching things develop between them and how they worked to figure out how to make things work and to understand each other.
The narrator did a good job with the story and characters and adding that extra dynamic to bring it to life.

I really liked the characters in this one!

The Mountain Mercenaries are introduced in this story that is narrated by Stella Bloom. Allye and Grey come together under dangerous and unusual circumstances, but their love story unfolds right along with the suspense and intrigue in the story. It was a good story, and Bloom is a talented narrator. I enjoyed my first Susan Stoker story!
