Publisher's summary

From best-selling author Susan Stoker comes a sizzling new series about four former military operatives who rid the world of the worst of humanity while fighting to protect the best part of their lives: the women they love.

Former military operative Carson “Bull” Rhodes hasn’t dated seriously since he and his teammates left the army. Since then he’s opened Silverstone Towing - which is a front for his other job: hired killer. When kindergarten teacher Skylar Reid calls for help while stranded on the side of the interstate, the attraction is instant. The problem is Bull’s career has jaded him. Skylar’s innocent, and he wants to keep her that way.

Cautious by nature, Skylar never expected to fall in love with her tow truck driver. Even so, once Bull reveals what he really does for a living, she’s not sure she can handle it. When Skylar faces threats that have nothing to do with Bull’s job but are just as deadly, the stakes are higher than ever.

With the help of the Silverstone team, Bull will use everything he’s learned over the years to bring the woman he loves home - because the alternative is unthinkable.

Action packed!

Trusting Skylar is the first book in the Silverstone series and I can already tell that I am going to love reading the rest of the books and can’t wait to get to know all the characters.
This is another action packed story by Susan Stoker that has fantastic characters that you will easily fall for all wrapped up in a storyline that will keep the pages turning.
We all expect the male characters to have those alpha protective tendencies and Carson (Bull) Rhodes is no exception but wait until you meet the feisty, caring Skylar because she has those protective characteristics also, especially when it comes to her students. This story will keep you engaged for so many reasons so grab your copy. You will not be disappointed!
I had the pleasure of listening to the audio version of this story and the narrators definitely added to my enjoyment of this story.

Excellent audiobook

This is the first book I've read/listened to by Susan Stoker. I wish I had found her sooner. The writing is excellent with a great storyline, likable characters, and a world that is easy to be absorbed into. I absolutely loved this audiobook. I'll be listening to more. Definitely worth the credit!

Lucy Rivers is an amazing narrator. Her performance was perfection. She did an excellent job with both male and female characters. This rolled like a movie in my head. I hope she does the whole series!!

*I listened to this audiobook through the Kindle Unlimited program.

Narrator

In audiobooks the narrator can make or break the book. In Trusting Skylar sadly the narrator is not a good fit to this book.

I have other audiobooks narrated by Lucy Rivers and enjoyed her narration and the books.

Susan Stoker is always a Pre-order purchase. Don’t let Trusting Skylar keep you from reading any of Susan’s books.

Well

I was doing OK even tho the story is a little slow but to me in chapter 14 it went down hill.. I have trouble deing with weak stupid people and Skylar got on my nerves so bad I wish I could have slapped her.. Darn she didn't deserve Cason.. he's such a sweetie.. So I would not read this one over like I do most brooks.. I wouldn't waste my credit or money on it..

Great start to this series

Great first installment to this new series, we were first introduced to the Silverstone team at the end of the Mountain Mercenaries series.

Carson "Bull" Rhodes is taking time to decompress after a mission, he's taking a shift at the their towing business, when he meets sweet kindergarten teacher Skylar Reid. He's instantly attracted to her and does his best to go above and beyond to make sure her car is taken care of and that she makes it home safely. But not before asking her out.

This is the first time he's ever felt like this and his only concern is what her reaction will be when he finally has to share what he and his team do to keep the world safe.

Her reaction is not what he was expecting but he has no other choice than to wait to talk to her again until he returns from his latest mission.

Upon his return he discovers that she and her student have been kidnapped. He and the team help in the search, will they be able to find them before it's too late?

Skylar Learns To Trust

Bull and Skylar's story is the first in the Silverstone series. When Bull first meets Skylar, he knows that she's special and wants to know her better. After falling in love with her, Bull must tell her the secret behind Silverstone. At first Skylar can't accept it. After circumstances change, she realizes he's the one she loves and doesn't want to be without.

Good Story but...

3.5 Stars for me.

Normally I rate Susan's books between 4 and 5 Stars but a few things kept me from doing that in this book.

1. The h is too naive about life but attempts to decry the issues affecting the poor and non-white students. It comes across as preachy which will turn off readers looking to escape the onslaught of the lunacy of life. It is okay to point out issues and things that can be done to fix them but continued repetition can be seen as preaching.

2. The H is too perfect. He has some issues with his role in life but easily justifies it. He cares deeply and everything is about safety for the h. It is almost impossible to believe that she made it to 28 years old.

3. The h essentially fell in love with all of her previous boyfriends. This is usually a huge red flag for most guys. She is also very accepting... that is until the H reveals his secret.

With all that, what did I like?
1. Susan unabashedly writes her stories with a strong H and the damsel in distress. This is her area and she has been incredibly successful at it.

2. Susan builds a family out of friends and small military units. This is important to me as many people have horrible families

4. Lots of repetition on fears and assumed shortcomings.

With all of the above, what did I like?

1. Susan unabashedly writes her stories with strong male leads and damsels in distress. It is her genre and she is excellent at it.

2. Her stories typically show that a chosen family can be as good as or significantly better than a blood related family.

3. Susan always shows respect for the military as well as writes how men should treat women. She also points out how women should treat men.

The story was good and I found myself caring about the main and extended characters. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Good story/Distracting narration

New to this author and enjoyed the sappy HEA and Hallmark channel vibes. The narration, however, was fairly distracting with the very strong "west coast- Valley Girl" infliction throughout. I'm not sure of it was intentional or it was just her accent but it became a bit grating and very whine-y sounding as the book progressed...

Skylar and Bull

Omg I was a mess through most of this book! I have never wanted a fictional character to die more lol Bull is the sweetest rough around the edges man ever. Skylar is well meaning, naive and always sees the good in people. He's made it his job to keep her safe. Will she let him?

Excellent

The story line was close to reality as it could get and it was plausible. There was suspense and action and some twists.

I only wish there were two reading the book a man’s voice would have been nice for the male characters.
