Publisher's summary

The stunning finale to the Defy the Stars trilogy from the New York Times best-selling author of Star Wars: Lost Stars and Bloodline.

Hunted and desperate.

Abel only has one mission left that matters: save the life of Noemi Vidal. To do that, he not only has to escape the Genesis authorities, he also must face the one person in the galaxy who still has the means to destroy him. Burton Mansfield's consciousness lives on, desperate for a home, and Abel's own body is his last bargaining chip.

Alone in the universe.

Brought back from the brink of death, Noemi Vidal finds Abel has not only saved her life, but he's made her into something else, something more. Not quite mech, yet not quite human any longer, Noemi must find her place in a universe where she is utterly unique, all while trying to create a world where anyone - even a mech - can be free.

The final battle between Earth and the colony planets is here, and there's no lengths to which Earth won't go to preserve its domination over all humanity. But together, the universe's most advanced mech and its first human-mech hybrid might have the power to change the galaxy for good.

This isn’t so much a review as a request

I really liked this series and everything wraps up so satisfyingly. I just hope that Claudia would write a novella of the characters father in to their future so we can see what happens to them.

An excellent conclusion to an excellent series!

I was waiting for this for MONTHS. A beautiful end to the story of Noemi and Able.

Weakest of the Trilogy

This book ended so strong that I almost wanted to give it 4 stars, but I couldn't let a few great chapters distract me from the rest of this mess. I am still giving it a three because there was just enough to keep me engaged, and there were some downright excellent moments, but they were unfortunately too few and far between.

This book never needed to happen--this series should have been a duology, seeing as the last two books in the trilogy barely scraped together enough new content for one book at best. Even then, it was still pretty repetitive and relied a lot on miscommunication and plot convenience.

The concept of this series had so much potential, and Abel is maybe one of my favorite characters. A lot of the side characters were really interesting, and the world-building was verging on excellent. It just feels so clear that Claudia Gray somehow got contracted to write a trilogy with nothing more than a vague concept and a few key scenes.

As always, the male narrator didn't help much. While the female narrator was good, the male narrator was really a weak point of this audiobook.

A little too much

I have really like this series so far but this one kind of missed the mark for me. This book moves so quickly from one plot point to the next that I felt like I was missing alot of character/story/relationship development in between. It felt like listening to an abridged book.
