About this listen

Evil from beyond time...

The Malwa Empire squats like a toad across 6th century India, commanded by ruthless men with depraved appetites. The thing from the distant future that commands them is far worse.

An advisor without a body...

Those who oppose the purulent hell the Malwa will make of Earth have sent a crystal, Aide, to halt their advance. Aide holds all human knowledge - but he cannot act by himself.

A champion for all times...

Count Belisarius, the greatest general of the age and perhaps of all ages, must outwit the evil empire - and then, when there is no longer room to maneuver, to meet it sword-edge to sword-edge, because, no matter what it costs...

...evil cannot be allowed to rule men!

Alliance with Persians and insurrection in Egypt

The collaboration of David Drake and Eric Flint has Destiny’s Shield as the third installment in their Belisarius series. With the Eastern Roman empire still reeling from the abortive coup attempt, Belisarius must form an alliance with their nearest neighbors, the Persians to assist them with their ongoing battles with the overmatched Malwa empire to the east. At the same time, there are rumblings in Egypt and Belisarius sends his wife to put down the incipient rebellion.

This time out, the Malwa empire is counting on their superior maritime forces to overwhelm. With the help of his future assistance, Belisarius uses explosives to redirect a river and strands the fleet. At the same time, Belisarius’ wife proves herself an able tactician, willing to break some heads to get everyone in line.

The narration continues to be superb with excellent character distinction. Pacing is smooth, a tad brisk, and well aligned with the plot action.

Masterful Yarn

This is a marvelous world built by two of the most of the most masterful authors to have graced the 20th and 21st Centuries.

I Love It When a Plan Comes Together

This is the third book in the Belisarius series. The first wave is coming and Belisarius is sent on campaign to slow them down. Outnumbered 10-to-1, Belisarius will have to find a way to stop the Malwa juggernaut.

Belisarius is now in his element: at the helm of the Roman army. This book is where you get to see why Belisarius is considered the greatest General of his time.

Again, the story and military battles are excellent! My only gripe is that Audible forgot to include the maps and diagrams from the physical book as a PDF. It is so much easier to understand the troop movements if the maps were included.

#3 of 6 The Characters continue to Unfold

The overall series (I have hard cover titles & ebooks) is great & the conclusion is solid.

I love this series, the writing is amazingly good

Drake is a master at bringing your intellect up and toilet humor altogether. I love the plot line and I can't wait to read the next book.

Incredible Alternate History

When you can make the military people believable, add humor, base it on actual history and culture you have done a remarkable job and Eric Flint did that with this book/series.

Narrator make characters sound arrogant

I did not like this book as much as the first 2 books. I really did not like any of the very arrogant characters and I did not care what happened to them. I am not sure if this was due to the way the narrator read it or the way the book was written.
