About this listen

When Lacey Quinn inherits the striking landscapes done by her late, much-loved grandfather, she believes they are as good as anything hanging in museums. But the paintings now in her possession are more than the works of a talented master. They are anguished voices from the grave...crying murder!

Lacey begins researching her grandfather's past and is rocked almost immediately by a strange series of violent events. Someone wants to steal her inheritance, to reduce the paintings to unrecognizable ashes in a suspicious blaze. Someone wants to prevent Lacey from examining her grandfather's work too closely...by any means necessary.

Ian Lapstrake, a security specialist, has taken an interest in Lacey's inheritance...and in her. Troubled by what he sees, he becomes Lacey's shadow, as her search for answers leads them both down an ever-darkening road paved with lies, blood, and devastating secrets.

Good Book

Keeps you wanting more, but a little predictable at the end.

Wonderful - Kept me guessing!

I am definitely a fan and Elizabeth Lowell never disappoints. Her books, including this one, are keepers to be reread every couple of years. Favorite quote - Art is where you find it - not who signed it.

I missed that this is abridged.

Since it is only 5 and a half hours and a competitor's is 13 a lot of story development is missing. That's why I gave it such a low rating. No wonder it sounds like the narrator is rushing.

Can't get past the narrator

What would have made Die in Plain Sight better?

A different narrator. Make it unabridged. The book is much better than the abridged audio edition.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I loved the information and discussion concerning painting and art. Lacey's parents.

What didn’t you like about Maria Tucci’s performance?

It really bothers me when performers don't bother to learn how Californians pronounce place names. She mispronounced San Jacinto and tule fog --a Californian wouldn't have done that. Also her voice is a gravely smoker's voice that was terribly distracting. Her voice detracted from the experience of listening to the story.

What character would you cut from Die in Plain Sight?

None

Any additional comments?

I've read this book several times and enjoyed it. The audio version was a disappointment.

Die in Plain Sight

The story may have been good because I've always enjoyed this writer but the narration was horrible. I felt like the narrator was rambling through the story which made it difficult to stay interested in the storyline. I didn't want to continue listening to the story after the first 45 minutes to hour.
