About this listen

Packed with high-powered action and stunning authenticity, the novels of Brigadier General A.J. Tata have won widespread acclaim from the bestselling masters of suspense. In Direct Fire, he brings the war on terror to America - with his hero, Jake Mahegan, caught in the crossfire...

A powerful banker, gunned down in cold blood. A military family, senselessly slaughtered as they sleep. A four-star general, hacked and framed by virtual assassins. Another key general, kidnapped from his farm near Fort Bragg. Atrocities like these are all too common in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. But this is the United States of America...

When Jake Mahegan receives a distress call from General Savage in North Carolina, he rushes to the commander's home - and walks right into an ambush. When the smoke clears, Mahegan is alive but the implications of the attack are as absolute as death: The terrorists are here...and no one is safe. Joining forces with Savage's combat JAG officer, Alexandra Russell, Mahegan follows the trail to a killer who goes by the name "Jackknife," a Syrian refugee-turned-terrorist who vows to avenge the bombing of a Syrian wedding - by killing as many Americans as possible.

But time is running out for Mahegan. Terrorist cells are gathering in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Hackers are emptying the nation's banks of millions of dollars. And their final act of vengeance will bring the whole world to its knees. For Mahegan, it's time to kill. Now.

Book 4 in this series does not disappoint. Publishers summery is spot on so no need to add to it. I do use the 1.25x speed to match the adventure.
I am a devoted fan of narrator Jonathan Davis, all time best of his narrations for me, Sandra Browns Mean Streak, mystery romance. Since Mr. Davis does heaps of Sci Fi, I buy what I can of his mysteries hence this series.
I am not sure why some of the negative reviewers felt this adventure failed to hold their attention. This was a fast pace story with a good back story of vengeance, and patriotic focus. Our Lady ranger is tops and prepared for an assault even as she sleeps.

Jake Mahegan once again is shown to be a complete BA! Like the others, AJ’s extremely detailed description of the fight scenes Leeds the listener to believe that he himself trains in martial arts because you can easily visualize every move until the bad guys ass has been beat. Great book, great performance, and story. If your a Jake Mahegan fan, you won’t be disappointed.

A.j. Delivers another one!

Loved this book with all the twists and turns, as well as the nod to past books in the series connecting the dots then and now for this story. I really like this author and it is clear that he served or certainly has been around someone intimately who has to adopt all the military lingo etc. The voice talent did a great job with voice inflection, for each voice and character in the story. An outstanding job with character development for each voice portrayed. Both the author and voice talent kept me completely engaged and with Tata’s descriptive story telling, I could picture the terrain described and surrounding areas depicted.
Well done !!! I look forward to listening to more of Tata’s books.

I think this is my favorite book in the series. It delves into the complex side of good and bad in each of us, without preaching or losing sight of the action. The action is non-stop and adds to the storyline instead of filter for adrenalin junkies. Well worth a credit.

Interesting All The Way

This was an admirable installment to the series. Interesting story line and good character development. The author fell a little into the mode of tell a story rather than allowing the characters tell it...but not too bad. If you like the series, you will like this book.

Enjoy the series
