Publisher's summary

From the USA Today bestselling author of Robert Ludlum’s Treadstone series, The Guardianis an action-packed adventure with a hint of romance that’s perfect for fans of Extraction and Romancing the Stone.

When a retired Air Force PJ with nothing to lose is hired to rescue a kidnapped American from the depths of the Congo Basin, what was supposed to be a simple mission quickly turns into a fight for survival …

As a member of the elite Air Force Pararescue, Travis Lane abides by the motto “These things we do, that others may live.” After an injury forces him to consider retirement, he is blindsided when his brother-in-law is killed in the line of duty, leaving Lane as the sole support for his sister and the family farm they can no longer afford.

Desperate for something to help them keep the farm, Lane accepts an offer to join Broadside Solutions, a private company with specially trained military operatives who provide protection for clients all over the world. But it’s trial by fire when his first mission takes him to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to find and retrieve a kidnapped American in the middle of a densely forested jungle.

Infused with the author’s own experience as a parachute infantryman, this high-octane thriller throws the reader deep into the African jungle on a rescue mission where nothing is as it seems.

Perfect popcorn Saturday night action flick in a book. Great story to listen to when doing yardwork or chores.

It’s a great story. Reminds me of the Mitch Rapp series I like. Will put this on my must get list going forward

Great action, perfect hero

I enjoyed the storyline. One of the main characters, the female one, annoyed me a bit with some stuff that she did. were a bit annoying and out of place. There is barely any gratitude in it at all. I did like the team Aunt. the ending was a bit of a shocker for me. The loss of any team members is always hard. yet, it was kind of predictable. The less that an author builds up a character or helps you to relate to them, the more likely they are going to be killed off. It is an unfortunate side effect of being an author that they overlook the predictability of that aspect. other than that, it was a good short action book. And it came with my audible plus membership, so even better! I think I will look up this author a little bit more and the narrator was awesome as well.

Good action packed adventure

It started out a little slow, but laying the groundwork for this story and the rest of the series is understandable here. The narration seemed a bit too theatrical at times, reminding me of an old time radio broadcast, but still well done. I found myself rooting for the protagonists and did enjoy the story.

What’s next?

The storyline is intriguing. After reading Joshua’s 4 books on Treadstone, I decided to read The Guardian. Although it started slow it ramped up quickly. The action was gripping and kept me listening. The way the author tells the story is spellbinding. Looking forward to learn what’s on tap for Lane and Mia next.
