About this listen

You don't know what you've got until it's gone....

Police academy cadet Charlie Burns can't believe his luck when the gorgeous blonde he meets in a bar murmurs those magic words: "Nothing serious, 'kay?" Mind-blowing, no-strings sex with Ever Carmichael - it's the holy grail of hookups for a guy who's too busy following in his law enforcement family's footsteps to think about getting serious. Charlie's all about casual...that is until Ever calls it quits, and his world tilts on its axis.

Ever knows that when you control the relationship game, you can't get played. But for the first time, she wants more than short-term satisfaction. Step one: end her fling with commitment-phobic Charlie. Step two: sacrifice herself to the ruthless NYC dating scene. Yet everywhere she turns, there's Charlie, being his ridiculously charming self. No online match or blind date compares to the criminally hot cop-in-training, but they're over. Aren't they?

If love is a four-letter-word, why does the idea of Ever seeing someone else tie Charlie up in knots? Now he's desperate to win her back...and a little date sabotage never hurt anyone, right?

Hot and steamy!

Loved this story and these characters! There was a lot that had me laughing out loud and quite a few scenes that had me fanning myself. Tessa Bailey sure knows how to write a good steamy scene. Fantastic narration! I can't wait for more books in this series!

Honestly, not my favorite from Tessa Bailey

I've now read and listened to many Tessa Bailey books and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them so far... Until this one. this one almost made it to my DNF pile. First, the male voice actor is HORRIBLE. Like, one of the worst I've ever listened to. His attempt at a female voice was nasaly and sounded more like he was making fun of women. It was awful. The story would have been better read completely by the female voice actor. Secondly, the plot itself was so-so at best. Two players that are secret commitment phobes suddenly fall hard for each other? That's normally a plot I love. I think it was the male character that I mostly didn't feel. He supposedly fell in love with her before he got to know anything about her at all, other than she was a fantastic fit for him in bed. Then he sabatoges all her attempts at dating for real. Personally, it was horrible. Now, it did get better at the end, which is why I gave it 3 stars. By the end, the male lead turned into an okay dude and the female lead made him work a bit for it. So, I'll be listening to book 2 still, but book 1 was not my favorite by Tessa Bailey.

Five-Hilarious-Stars

Seriously, Tessa Bailey can do no wrong in my eyes. If there is a trigger I don’t care for, I still read her books - she has some kind of magic with her writing. Thoroughly enjoyed this one!

nothing but the truth

the ending was kinda corny. Charley was a bit too clueless and the person reading his part was a bit too over the top with his character. I liked the story.

Smutty Fun

Tropes: third breakout-up, friends with benefits turned love, completely obsessed MMC

While this was a wild and fun ride with lots of spice, there were many flaws. Our FMC completely character shifts after a brief conversation with her mother. The whole storyline between FMC and her mother was rather pointless. Our MMC went from perfect police recruit to law breaking stalking jealous ex-lover. I get it was to further the aspect of “love” but the MMC started doing everything because he wanted to hook up with our FMC, it wasn't until almost the end that they realized they loved one another.

The banter was entertaining, and the spice was definitely spicy. While it had frustrating parts and plot elements, it was a fun and easy read!

Narration was splendid and full of spirit!

Jersey Shore

Though the H/h were shallow in regards to relationships, they redeemed themselves by the end. The main thread through out was the h trying to connect with her mother by making life decisions that would please the bitter woman, which was ridiculous, but hey, it's fiction so whatever.
The narrator...ugh. Sorry, but he sounded like an actor auditioning for Jersey Shore. Might not bother others, but I almost returned the book due to the narrator, but was glad I hung on for the HEA.

Graphic sex scenes, not for young readers...but fun for the middle-aged.

Two self-sabotaging numbskulls

“I have to remind myself, it’s not polite to climb men in public.”
This is a hard one to rate because the narration was nails on the chalkboard bad. I needed to speed up her narration, and then kept slowing for him, speeding up for her, and back again.
Mr. Cendese is great for male voices but is the worst for female voices. If this had been duet narration, or Jacob Morgan narrated this, I think I’d go from 1 to 5 stars across the board. As it was, I died a little each time he voiced Ever’s dialogue.

“I just want my uncomplicated, non-relationship with Ever back.”
The story itself was fantastic. I would hate both of these knuckleheaded horndogs in real life, but I could totally see this as a movie. The sex is raunchy and exuberant right from the get go. When Ever ends their just sex fling and embarks on her quest to meet a forever man, Charlie’s antics in wooing her back to casual are hilarious. Ms. Bailey completely sold me on their original devotion to being mere friends with benefits, and yet also convinced me of their turn-around and eureka moments. And I love, love, loved the groveling, ‘you had me at hello’ style letters as Charlie bares his soul.

Reading this series, I’d say book 1 was my favorite, followed closely by book 3.
Audiobook-wise, book 3 takes the prize thanks to Jacob Morgan.

Charlie is my new Book BF!!

I laughed so much!! I texted my best friend right away to tell her she had to listen after the Charlie’s reference of his knees hitting the floor and being robbed at gun point. I loved the story through and through!!

Overall good. Subsequent stories in the series are better.

I love Tessa Bailey’s stories but was not a fan of the male character voice.
