About this listen

The sixth novel of the galaxy-spanning Sun Eater series merges the best of space opera and epic fantasy, as Hadrian Marlowe continues down a path that can only end in fire.

The end is nigh.

It has been nearly two hundred years since Hadrian Marlowe assaulted the person of the Emperor and walked away from war. From his Empire. His duty. From the will and service of the eldritch being known only as the Quiet. The galaxy lies in the grip of a terrible plague, and worse, the Cielcin have overrun the realms of men.

A messenger has come to Jadd, bearing a summons from the Sollan Emperor for the one-time hero. A summons, a pardon, and a plea. HAPSIS, the Emperor’s secret first-contact intelligence organization, has located one of the dreadful Watchers, the immense, powerful beings worshipped by the Pale Cielcin.

Called out of retirement and exile, the old hero—accompanied by his daughter, Cassandra—must race across the galaxy and against time to accomplish one last, impossible task:

To kill a god.

After reading the Red Rising series I searched for something that would scratch the itch of a book series that felt similar and although this series isn't exactly similar it scratches the itch for me. Honestly the writing is better in a lot of ways as well. I'm now desperate for the next book!

This series is tied with Red Rising and my 2 favorite series.

my new favorite sun eater novel by a wide margin, absolutely blown away by the twists and turns this book took to keep the path

I love this series and it’s excellent narration. This one blew my mind around chapter 39. I never lose interest in Hadrian Marlowe.

As so it continues

I loved the story progression. The narrator was great. I highly recommend this series to any fantasy or sci-fi reader.

These books just keep getting better

I cannot wait (yet can) for the finale of this series. This was the best book yet in it.

Best book yet in this series

It’s impossible for me to review this book separate from the entire series. If you’re here I assume - like me - you are committed to this beautiful story and universe. Each book is better than the last, even when it feels like you’ve witnessed it already. It is the same for this one, which is now my favorite until book 7 which will likely be my favorite then. Please just do yourself a favor and start it already

fantastic as always. the characters that reappear just wow. I dont want to give anything away but seeing seeds from earlier books start coming together is wonderful.

I will never not love a sun eater book.

I love this series for the profound moments between characters, the loveliness of their emotions and the vast scope of their problems, namely for our hero, but side characters are also significant. The audio is superb. As beautiful as the hardbacks are, I’ll always have to listen to this series. The character work and accents is top notch and furthers the realism of this far space adventure.
My greatest struggle continues to be understanding all the plot points instead of just most. The ones I understood still rocked my socks off, so here’s to getting more on my next read through.
Pain begets mercy is a mantra that has forced retrospection in how I endure pain. I need to be less ornery and more merciful.

Another Sun Eater style Space Opera Episdoe
