About this listen

Blamed as a child for her baby sister's death, Dianne Rucker swore she'd never come back to Dentonville, Texas. But the kind aunt who took her in after her mother abandoned her is getting remarried, and she misses the cousins who came to be sisters, Yolanda and Regina. Going back to Dentonville also means facing her drug-addicted mother, now slipping even farther into schizophrenia. But Dianne isn't the only one struggling, and Aunt Gloria may have the most life-altering secret of all. The women must look to their faith in God as they attempt to turn their lives around like Saul on the Biblical road to Damascus.

Author Michelle Stimpson has drawn praise from both readers and critics for her sassy, realistic characters. Her edgy Christian fiction focuses on the redeeming power of God during times that test the strength of family bonds.

Heartfelt listen

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book was a terrific story and a fulfilling listen. I felt like I was listening to a sermon at church sometimes and I mean that in a good way. It made me reflect on my life, too.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Yolanda was my favorite character because she had her life all figured out and didn't need anyone else....she thought. I can relate.

What about Sharon Washington’s performance did you like?

Her voice was very soothing to listen to. I would listen to more books read by her.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I had a strong reaction to this book. It made me realize some things.

misery to a message

I loved it and hated to see it come to an end. I learned so much about myself and how God has directed my life. I learned the heart ache of family secrets. I would recommend this book to everyone.

The untold story

This was a soothing story of how seeking to be perfect for Christ is without merit. We seek Christ first and him we will find perfect love. Well done!

Very good read!

I so enjoyed this book. Aunt Toe was my favorite! Yolanda was a close second! The use of prayer was outstanding and reminded me that I need to pray about EVERYTHING!

Lesson in Truth

Definitely a page turner. Narrator was awesome!
Storyline was good. A few holes in the story. Joyce Ann's story should have been more detailed; would've filled in the holes. Overall a must read!

Much Longer Than Necessary

This book was much too long for the context. The very few plot twists were so few and far between that I honestly cannot even tell you what happened in most of the book because I just let it play like background noise. It also took me a very long time to complete because very few things made me want to start listening again when I paused the book. I actually used a credit for this book and I am a little bummed about that, but at least I didn't spend my actual money. The reason I am giving the book 3.5 stars is because the narrator did a pretty good job with what she was given, and because with all that is going on in this world, sometimes we just need some wholesome listening with great reminders of God and His word. Several parts of this book were just that. Others though, were just white noise.
