About this listen

On the night of the Parkhurst ball, someone had a scandalous tryst in the library. Was it Lord Canby, with the maid, on the divan? Or Miss Fairchild, with a rake, against the wall? Perhaps the butler did it.

All Charlotte Highwood knows is this: It wasn't her. But rumors to the contrary are buzzing. Unless she can discover the lovers' true identity, she'll be forced to marry Piers Brandon, Lord Granville - the coldest, most arrogantly handsome gentleman she's ever had the misfortune to embrace. When it comes to emotion, the man hasn't got a clue.

But as they set about finding the mystery lovers, Piers reveals a few secrets of his own. The oh, so proper marquess can pick locks, land punches, tease with sly wit, and melt a woman's knees with a single kiss. The only thing he guards more fiercely than Charlotte's safety is the truth about his dark past.

Their passion is intense. The danger is real. Soon Charlotte's feeling torn. Will she risk all to prove her innocence? Or surrender it to a man who's sworn to never love?

I loved it. Totally charming and witty. Predictable in a good way and the mystery was charming instead of evil and ugly. That is hard to do. Mysteries in romance seem to be ugly and violent or silly and insipid but this one was able to be charming without going over to either side. Steam was nice too — not too much but enough and you don’t have to wait and wait and wait. Light touch and doesn’t use the steam to replace the story. Perfect regency romance (a bit ahead of its time but that’s Tessa Dare). Loved the heroine and so nice that Piers finally gets his woman. A great pleasure. Listened to the whole thing in one fell swoop. Narrator was absolutely wonderful. Her heroine voice was light but not cutesy. Her narrator voice was different. Her male voice was good too. Every main character was well done. Really really a pleasure in every way.

Terrific

This was a fun story. I really liked the Charlotte, the heroine. She was strong, spunky, smart, witty and outspoken. Piers was great too. Handsome, strong smart, rich and a spy. The two had some good chemistry together and there were some hot and steamy, nicely written sex scenes.

The story line and plot was interesting. I liked the mystery and trying to figure out who the tuppers were. LOL There was a lot of great dialogue throughout the entire book. I love lots of dialogue. Even though they weren't in Spindle Cove, we did see a few characters pop in.

As for the narration, it was decent. Carmen Rose has gotten better with her narrations. Still needs to do a little work in the monotone reading and put a bit more emotion where it belongs. And a little more work on the men's voices would be good. She is not bad, not great either.

Carolyn Morris would have been a superb choice in narrators since she did all the previous Spindle Cove books. (and she is one of my favorites!)

Fun Story and decent narration.

So good! So funny! So romantic! So intriguing! So sexy! Piers is so hot and mysterious (though he messed up a little in the end and had to make up for it with a grand gesture, which was absolutely perfect), and Charlotte is so charming and smart and lovable. Such a perfect couple! One of Tessa Dare's best works yet! Loved it!

Funny, romantic, intriguing, and sexy!

I just love Tessa Dares books but I really wish they would let someone else narrate them.

Love the book - hate the narrator!

I love the spindle cove series. I’m glad Charolette finally found true love. Worth the listen

Great story and narrator

I loved the story but unfortunately the narrator has a very robotic and fast sounding telling of the story. The story would be much better if it was red by Rosalyn Landor

Story was excellent, performance was robotic

If you love Lisa Kleypas, and who doesn't, you will also love Tessa Dare. I am so glad I discovered her books!

Tessa Dare is consistently wonderful

Piers and Charlotte are a lovely force of love in this tale of opening up and letting the past go. Tessa's steamy sex scenes will pull us all in with nothing left to the imaginación. She has done the hard work for us!

Best of Tessa Dare

I enjoyed this story. Not too much angst and no unnecessary negativity or violence. It was a sweet story from beginning to end. I laugh at some moments and the story was quite innocent in general. I enjoyed it.

Nice story
