It was just a little difficult to understand what was being said. Had a hard time hearing it.

should have listened to sample

Where the use of a slight Spanish accent could enhance the enjoyment of the tale, the number of mispronunciations causes a loss of flow to the story and takes the listener out of the book and into a mode of just trying to figure out what was supposed to be said.

Classic tale made difficult

This audiobook is not recommended for environments like cars. The accent is challenging without interference but impossible with interference.

Would you try another book from Miguel de Cervantes and/or Julian Reinoso?

Certainly not Julian Reinoso.

What didn’t you like about Julian Reinoso’s performance?

His pronunciations and accents are off the chart bizarre!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointed; I didn't get past the first 30 minutes.

Any additional comments?

The comments of other members speak to the same issues I have raised.

Nearly Incomprehensible Narration

This narration lacks the panache of the original text. This narrator is completely unable to convey the inferred humor of the language of the original text. Not only is the narration liking the subtleties d original oh just work this translation seems to wholly miss the wonder and the subtle nuances of the original old style Spanish script.

The narrator's inability to correctly pronounce the Old English forms of "Thee" and "Thou" does not convey the original wit and wisdom of these epic stories.

This narration sounds like a high school freshman reading Shakespeare aloud for the first time

Not a very good narration of thi great work of art

I couldn't even get through 10 minutes. I'm sorry to say the narrator voice is unlistenable. I'm super bummed because I was really looking forward to hearing the story.

This version was pretty bad. I intend on reviewing the ratings of other listeners in the future. I could have saved myself some time and annoyance.

I agree.

I understand that this book was originally written in Spanish. The reason for translating it into English is so we English speakers can understand and enjoy this great story.

The narrator's thick Spanish accent and poor pronunciation of English words makes it very difficult to understand what he is saying all of the time.

I find myself having to rewind a great deal to catch words and phrases. (And this is a long book.)

When I listen to narrations of Tolstoy and Dostoevsky I listen to a pleasant, understandable English accent. The audio publishers felt no need to hire a narrator with a thick Russian accent and poor English pronunciation skills.

I just listened to "The White Tiger". An excellent book. Takes place in India. The Narrator, Mr Lee, narrates with an excellent Indian accent to give us a sense that we are listening to an Indian story. He does so with totally understandable English pronunciation.

There is no crime to speak with an accent, if you have excellent English pronunciation skills. This narrator does not.

The previous review nailed it. A classic when read, a nightmare to listen to, if Audible had a money back guarantee this would be one that would be going back. Save your credits.

What didn’t you like about Julian Reinoso’s performance?

Just listen to the preview (which I stupidly did not do), and you'll immediately know that this performance is unbearably bad. Reinoso is virtually incomprehensible, made so much worse by the fact that his every sentence sounds like it comes from a crappy computer. This version deserves to be erased permanently. Spend the extra money on a better performance, or just get it in print.
