About this listen

Grief has settled in at Hart House. For nine months, Alfie has been caring for his twin seven-year-old daughters after the sudden death of their mother, Pippa. One night, Alfie wakes to find Sylvie and Cassia at the foot of his bed, claiming there’s a man in their room. Alfie finds no sign of a man, but it isn’t long before the girls start talking about an imaginary friend. What seemingly begins as a harmless coping mechanism for the two grieving girls quickly develops into something more insidious..

Alfie calls upon Julia—Pippa’s twin and a psychiatrist—to oust the malignant tenant from their lives, but he doesn’t want to leave. As his malevolent grip on the girls tightens—with increasingly dark and violent consequences—Alfie and Julia must contend with their own unspoken sense of loss, the haunting past of the house itself, and the true character of the force that has poisoned the girls’ minds.

I let out an audible gasp at the end of this one. Left me kinda dizzy, but on a good way. 👍🏼

Meh! Was disappointed. Too much to sort through. Left me feeling like I wasted all my time listening, with no real outcome....

I’ll be honest, I was terribly confused for most of the book. In the end it made sense somewhat but I still have questions.

Head Scratcher

There was no point to the story. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen but it never did

The name of the book and the cover

The male narrator sounded like a computer-generated voice at many times. It was very distracting.

Narration was kind of weird

It was hard to follow on Audiobook. Too slow of a buildup for me. Couldn’t follow the end.

Not a Fan

I listen to a lot of supernatural things and this definitely left me feeling chilled in the end. I do have to say that the build up took a little longer than I would have liked. It allowed my imagination to run a little too wild in anticipation for the ending. I still loved how the finale went, however I imagined it to be a bit more grousome. Perhaps, that's what makes it extra chilling.

great ending

The male reading just seemed so off to me that I couldn’t get into the book. Setting this story and characters up was dismal. Just couldn’t get into this book. I finished it, because my mind says I have to.

Kind of got confusing towards the end but enjoyed the book overall. Spooky but also interesting take on a twin sister relationship.

Good story

This book started out strong with an intriguing plot but left a lot wanting. Many unanswered questions and unfinished story lines. And the ending was probably the worst ending of any book I’ve ever read. It was almost like the author got to chapter 18 and decided they were done writing and just ended it. The narrator was great and I enjoyed listening to them speak.

Horrible ending
