About this listen

Are you an ash?

Increased stamina....

Lack of appetite....

Anger outbursts....

Insatiable thirst....

Beauty and strength....

Male....

Call the hotline if these symptoms come on suddenly!

Turns out Charlie Bennet was all of those things except the last. Don't let the name fool you, Charlie was all woman, and she wanted nothing to do with the ash...until the day she found out she was one.

It all started when infected bats bit a small group of humans and created what are now called vampires. Then, the male vampires knocked up some female humans, and the result was a gorgeous race of all male ash - superhuman freaks that had looks to kill.

Charlie is the first female ash, aka unicorn of the Hive - the gated compound in Portland that the humans have designated to isolate vampires and ash from society.

Problem? The Hive is full, and only a select few will be allowed to live there. To live at all, really. If Charlie wants to earn the right to become a citizen of the Hive, she will have to survive the culling - a series of fights to the death. And guess what? Just because she's a girl doesn't mean she'll get special treatment.

Good thing there's Ryder, the mysterious lead ash enforcer, who seems to always have her back. But when secrets bubble to the surface, it will take more than one guy to save her.

Recommended for ages 17+ due to language.

Good enough to hear a second time

overall I would recommend this book to others though I would caution them that the authors could do a lot beet job writing the male characters. They lack the logical senses males of their portrayed training and temperament would display. So at times it's annoying to listen to them an the females are typical over emotional at times. if you can get past these characters flaws or fast forward the books not bad.

great book! but beware lots of bad language

I loved this book so much! I also love Dara Rosenberg! she's an awesome narrator! the story was too short and I'm definitely getting the second book. but beware there are a LOT of curse words. I don't recommend for a younger audience!

good base line

This first book set the stage for what I hope is a great series. The story line took a while to get started and focused on the relationship building versus the plotline and action. Alot of small short plots that tried to come together at the end. I am going to purchase the second book hopefully the stage is set for a cool series..

Voice actor is pretty good. She carries both women and men personas well.

Great original storyline

I had downloaded several books. Started to listen to them and stopped. I decided to listen to this one...Ash. The opening of the book drew in and my attention immediately and I just wanted to hear it all the way through. I love the fact that it was original and up-to-date. I enjoyed Dara Rosenbergs narration of the book Ash. Once again this book is worth listening to. I am looking forward to book 2 and book 3 of the series.

valley girl

the first half was extremely interesting but then it became a " me and my bitchs" all that was missing was the accent. ended up struggling through the last third of the book hoping it would get better but it didn't. don't waste your time or money on this.

It had just enough meat in there to be interesting

This is written in first person and I am totally okay with that but at times it's hard to differentiate when Charlie is thinking or actually talking. You're more or less supposed to be in her head all the time but even so the constant reminders of how "hot" the guys were got old after chapter 2.
Overall if you enjoy vampires and Hunger games this will be right up your alley.

Compelling, exciting, and surprisingly brutal.

When I caught the flu and had to stay in bed all day, I spent my waking hours listening to ASH. Vampire hybrids who must fight to the death to survive. Sexy commando type love interests. Best Friends Forever. What's not to love? I will be waiting for the sequel.

Mostly ugh but future promise

What did you like best about Ash? What did you like least?

It's an okay reading, it's an okay story (the amount I listened to) but it's very bodice-ripper teen mentality which isn't to my taste. Some maturity on the author's part and a reader that knows more words might improve the listening experience.

Some notes for the reader. Please, if you don't recognize a word look up how to pronounce it. I winced at the multiple mispronunciations. To the author and the reader, "anyway" does not have an S at the end. Truly. Look it up.

I didn't finish the book. It's one I will never listen to again. Books to me are like music. If they make me wince I don't finish and I don't listen to the story again. Patricia Briggs, Ilona Andrews, Eileen Wilks, Jennifer Crusie, Molly Harper . . . this is a short list of authors I listen to over and over, the stories never getting old.

Did Ash inspire you to do anything?

Stop listening

Any additional comments?

There's future promise here for both author and reader.
