Hugh Frazier provides an impeccable interpretation of this story (and in all stories he performs). I enjoyed the interaction between Hastings and Bob!

A thoroughly enjoyable listen

Vintage Agatha Christie. Hugh Fraser’s voice and characterizations can’t help but conjure up the PBS POIROT in which he played Capt Hastings. Vivid!

Christie Perfection

In this case, Poirot takes on the job requested of him in a letter he received months too late - and long after the letter writer is dead.........did she die an accidental death, as has been officially stated, or was it murder? And if it was murder, who was the guilty party? There's a collection of relatives and hired help who all might get a piece of the inheritance, and it's up to Poirot to figure it out. Very nicely done by Christie from a kind of routine set up (as many of her's are). As for the dog......well, the deceased client's dog get a few "words" in the story too.

accidental death or murder?

"Dumb Witness" by Agatha Christie is a delightful mystery set in the idyllic English countryside. The story follows Hercule Poirot as he investigates the suspicious death of an elderly woman who seemingly fell down the stairs. ...But oh no; turns out there is foul play involved! Who could have guessed?!

One of the strengths of "Dumb Witness" lies in Christie's skillful misdirection. The narrative is peppered with red herrings and twists to keep readers guessing until the very end.

The characters are, except for Poirot himself and the funny little terrier of the household, not anything you've not seen before. They were perfectly intrigated into the story but not memorable outside of it. Hercule Poirot, as always, shines as the brilliant and eccentric detective whose keen powers of observation never fail to impress. The interactions between Poirot and the dog are a highlight of the novel.

However, without giving away too much, one certain piece of evidence early on may lead discerning readers to anticipate the eventual resolution of the mystery. While this doesn't detract significantly from the overall enjoyment of the novel, it does slightly diminish the element of surprise.

Overall, "Dumb Witness" is a captivating mystery and is sure to delight fans of classic whodunits. Despite a minor detail that may give away part of the solution, the novel remains a satisfying and entertaining read from beginning to end.

Poirot can't catch a break

Bob the dog is hands down the best character in this book. I would thoroughly enjoy more stories with him chatting with Hastings. Mystery-wise, this is a classic Agatha Christie novel with the culprit being difficult to guess to the very end.

5 stars for Bob
