The second crime thriller in the No.1 bestselling Logan McRae series from Stuart MacBride.

Even the darkest crimes will come to light…

‘Stuart MacBride is a damned fine writer’ Peter James

Crime never sleeps.

Down by the docks, in the dead of night, a woman is hunted down and killed. For DS Logan McRae, it’s just the beginning of another nightmare.

Neither does this killer.

As the day dawns and the body count rises, Logan realises that this isn’t just an isolated murder. It’s far more disturbing than that.
A killer is on the loose and wreaking havoc – and Logan is running out of time to stop them.

And the clock is ticking . . .

Critic reviews

"The story is violent and bloody; some of the crimes are vicious, and MacBride doesn't hold back on the details. But there is plenty of dark humour, and a warmth to the portrayal of the police officers which lightens an otherwise grim tale by this very talented writer." (Sunday Telegraph)

After listening to "Dying light" (my first by this author), i went right on to this book. On the up side, it was just as interesting and the characters were, if anything, funnier and more peculiar than before. I thoroughly enjoyed them. The downside is a small thing, but i felt that the violence got to be a bit much at one point. And i'm not opposed to violence in novels (or movies), i just thought it went a bit overboard. Regardless, i'll definitely be continuing to follow this band of characters Thay're just too much fun. Also, once again, i thought the narration was perfect.

Excellent, funny, quite violent

The second book in the Logan McRae series is Riviting and Gruesome.Completely unputdownable. Other Crime writers say they are green with envy. You too will agree. Stuart MacBride is the true to life best crime writer to come along in a long time. You really can’t compare him to anyone. He is a stand alone star! What a way with words. Definatly "the seamy side of life"in old Aberdeen. The narrator is so good, you are completely absorb in these books.Sessions with his oh so Scottish accent, puts the frosting on the cake! Why oh why are they not Unabridged?
Can't wait for the third one 'Broken Skin'.Roll on MacBride and Sessions

Stupendous Sequel

I have listened to Dying Light for the ?th time - and I love it. I am only sorry, that it is the abridged version. Wondering what I am missing.

Too bad it's abridged

I will be repeating this entire series of Logan McRae novels, the characters are brilliant, funny and brought to life by the excellent narration of John Sessions. The humour was unexpected in subject matter like murder and child abduction but I found myself laughing out loud frequently. I was pleased to see the return of DI Steele, sh is my favourite detective of all. Story lines are gripping right to the end, I can't wait for the next installment.

Murder mystery with unexpected humour

Love Stuart macbride but they butchered this by abridging it. Really confusing! Will buy print version.
Don't waste time on this audio.

Abridged ruined it

I could not listen to this audiobook! The narration was terrible!! Please go back to the original narrator that carried the first book easily along until the last words were spoken!

Cover your ears!

I have read three books now by MacBride. They are very funny and the narration is wonderful BUT....they are filled with the most unlikable bunch of people. The police, the suspects and the general population of Aberdeen come across as the most violent, mean and just nasty group of people around. There is always some of this in any detective series (and I have read Rankin, Macdermid, La Plante just to name some) but this was just too much. The actual police work remains so so and I always feel like they solve the crimes (which are very very violent) practically be mistake. If you want to try them, I'd go for the abridged versions. I may listen to a few more if I can't find anything else because the performance is so great but there are much better detective novels out there.

The most awful people!
