About this listen

El Cid is the oldest Spanish epic poem preserved.

It is based on the true story of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, known as El Cid, and it takes place during the Spanish Reconquest.

This is the story of a brave man who took on the challenge of recovering his home country after it had been besieged.

This poem has been completely reworked and carefully adapted in modern English to allow for easy listening.

Enjoy!

Good enough

If you want to hear the story of El Cid and actually experience it in verse as the original audience would have, this audiobook will do the trick. My only complaint is that the narrator really doesn't know how to pronounce Spanish and it's shameful. Why would take on such an important classic and not at least study up on Spanish pronounciation?

The heroic tale translated simply.

The original was penned around 1200 CE telling of the national hero of Spain's efforts to liberate the country from the Moors and others. I do not read historic Castilian and therefore cannot comment on the translation except to say that listening to Jack Kison narrate in such a clear manner made the experience terrific!
