Publisher's summary

Escape is a classic encounter between the forces of good and evil in human form that asks, and answers, questions of how to deal with supposedly "God-inspired" acts of murder and mayhem. In a riveting trial of garish courtroom confrontations, newly elected New York District Attorney Karp battles the "insanity of the insanity defense", as he tries to make Jessica Campbell, a rabble-rousing political science professor at NYU, pay for the murder of her three children. While Campbell claims that God told her to "send her three children to Him," it is up to Karp to prove that she was fully aware of the nature and consequences of her actions.

Meanwhile, an Islamic terrorist, The Sheik, and his homegrown suicidal "jihadis" hatch a plan, a spectacular outrage to occur in Manhattan's heartland, that if successful could destroy the economy of the United States and the world. Standing between the terrorist Sheik and his diabolical scheme are Butch's wife, Marlene Ciampi, a private detective focused on protecting women from abusers; the couple's daughter, Lucy, who has joined a secretive anti-terrorist organization; and a wonderfully eccentric-but effective-group of crime fighters as has ever graced the pages of a book.

Tanenbaum writes another great book.

"Escape" the newest book by Robert Tanenbaum that continues with the ongoing saga of the Karp/Ciampi klan of talented children, culturally diverse friends, and shadowy fringe creatures. This book really comes alive in the audiobook format. The narrator is capable of using his voice to depict the characters in a way that bring them alive for the listener. The plot of this book is complicated, and as usual, there is a wealth of relevant information for the reader to grasp. The theme of "Escape" is quite clear and the message is one that has historical significance for all the ages. Don't miss reading this book.

Fun and interesting

Rats!! All the the other Tanenbaum books in audible.com are abridged. I'm an avid reader and listener. I really enjoyed this book. I will listen to any of Tanenbaum's books that audible.com offers unabridged. It is a long book that kept my interest all the way through. I recommend it to anyone that likes a good story with a lot of different and often oddball characters.

Escape

The question of obeying "God" blindly without question was raised. the suspense, d r ama, character development and overall storyline were compelling. Tannenbaum remains on my favorite reads list.

Not bad, not great

I can't say that I didn't enjoy it, and I can't say that I overly enjoyed it.

There were disparate storylines that I knew would come together eventually (which they did), but I'm not sure if I ever really was overly into any of them.

If there is another in the series to follow, I'll probably listen to it, but it won't be the first book on my list that I'll be looking for.

Escape

This is typical of the Butch Karp books but dont
believe the description provided by Audible. It
is completely incorrect and does not in any way
sharp of form (other than the characters) describe this book. If you liked the other books with the same characters you will like this one.

Thank you, Mr. T.

This was a very involved book with 3 plots weaving together into what I thought was a wonderfully done novel. It was deep & moving and made me think about many issues. I enjoyed the book and the narrator did a wonderfull job. The characters flowed nicely and I thought the narrator was easy to follow. I will look forward to the next Butch Karp novel as he and his family and their characters and assorted friends are always up to someting interesting.

I really wanted this to be better

I like long unabridged books. I like series and Have really enjoyed the characters in the Tanenbaum books in the past. This is the second book with the new ghost writer that I have read and the second time I have been disappointed. (look up Robert K Tanenbaum on the web if you don't know the story)
It is not that the book is bad, it isn't. It is ok and I didn't want to quit listening. The reader is fine, not great but not bad. The story moves very very slowly because the author starts the action and then tells the character's backstory and then continues the action.
Once a character mentions an event he says happened "yesterday" and I thought that is seemed like weeks, not one day, due to all of the backstory and unrelated stuff stuck in.
Also. where are the characters I had really enjoyed in the past?
The twins are barely there.
Marlene shows up briefly.
Lucy, my favorite character, is there with no detail or depth, just skimmed over.
I won't say don't read this. Just be warned.
I am not sure I will buy another Tanenbaum book, and that is a shame, from a former fan.
Instead I think I will look up the former ghost writer's books and buy them.

Meaningful Melodrama

The art witnessed in the earlier books of the series is back. The in depth discussion of evil things done in God's (Allah's) name is woven into the fabric of a complex adventure and a melodramatic villian explaining the "genius" of evil. Then blending of Holocaust, Jihad, and a delusional murderer gave the subject a broad perspective. I am reading the series in order, and pleased to see improved structure in the plot (compared to the previous several books).
