About this listen

Seven towns. Seven seas. The seven council. The seven words every person lives by.

The sea is lost; pirates are death.

Cassandra should have been killed at birth, like all the other children who have powers like her. The changed ones. The ones who started the war, lost the seas, and killed millions with their gifts. Lucky for Cassandra, her father is on the council. One of the seven rulers of her large town and has kept her hidden her entire life. When she is seen for the first time, she has no choice but to run, and the only place she can go is to the sea.

To the pirates and a certain death. At least that is what she thinks. When she meets six handsome pirates and they take her on board their ship, she learns about a whole new world.

If only she can protect her heart when they all desire to own it.

This is a reverse harem trilogy. Seventeen+.

Great book

This book surprised me.
The story is adorable, creative and full of adventures. The only problem is that the story is too short ... it ends too fast! Another problem in my view is that the story points to the direction of a polygamous relationship between the characters. This seems to be a trend, since in other series I also came across this fact.

I really liked the book.

I really enjoyed this book, the only problem with it is the length. If I had paid full price or a credit for this book I woulds have felt a little pissy about it. I did not pay full price, as a matter of fact I got the Audible version with the Kindle version for around $5.30 and for that price I'm all in. I love books like this, they are a fun, easy listen, yet they really engage the listener. I'm usually good with anything Sci Fi or Fantasy with very little Romance. This book was mainly Romance with a little bit of X thrown in. The story was good and it caught my attention all the way through. Sometimes you just want something simple and easy with adventure to listen to this book was really awesome for that!

Paranormal pirate fantasy!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: 😚☹️🥹😉
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Cassandra - she is a changed one, the only female changed one born in a very long time. She was born with a mark on her forehead which designates her as a changed one. In the past, the changed ones had powers and were celebrated until one of them was said to have destroyed the world. Since then, all changed ones born on the seven islands have been put to death by order of the king. Cassandra’s father is on the council and is the richest man on their island, where most of the population goes hungry. He has hidden her away her entire life.

The Heroes: Hunter, Jacob, Chaz, Ryland, Dante, Zach - They are pirates that roam the seas. Some of them came from the castle of the King, different things drove them to be pirates, though they also have passengers on their ship. All of them are very handsome, Ryland is the captain, Hunter is his twin and is the quintessential grumpy pirate, Chaz is the caring doctor, Jacob is nice and sweet, Dante is a charmer and Zach is the cook with a troubled past.

The Story: when Cassandra leaves her father’s house one night, she is spotted by the villagers and needs to escape the island, or she might be killed for being a changed one, which would also get her father in trouble for hiding her all her life. The only avenue of escape is taking a boat out into the ocean even though it is well known there are ruthless pirates out there and her chances of making it somewhere safe are very slim. Even the starving residents of the islands rarely leave, due to the threat posed by pirates.

However, when her boat crashes into the pirate ship, Cassandra learns that they aren’t what she expected, and they want to help and protect her. I liked the story, and I really liked the characters. I enjoyed how protective the guys were of Cassandra, and I liked the fact that despite there being six heroes there weren’t a bunch of steamy scenes. It was romance and story, but not smutty. I loved the paranormal aspects of the story and the dragon egg.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Tyler Ryan, Fleet Cooper, Patrick Garrett, Aaron Sin, Matthew Holland, and Morais Almeida. This book had all of those narrators, so it really should have been done in duet narration. Though I did like all their voices.

This audiobook said it was unabridged, though the Kindle version says it is 298 pages which usually equates to a 7 or more-hour audiobook and this one was just over 4 hours, so I am not sure what happened there. Either way, I did like the story and would continue to the next one if I didn’t have to buy it, but I don’t like to spend money on only 4-5 hours of audio.

Good start to the series!

Book 1 of G Bailey's pirate series drew me in. To be honest, there were so slower spots in this book but overall I enjoyed it and definitely continued on with the series. I liked the different pirates, and thought their first encounters with our MC were hilarious and fun each in their own way. I definitely have some favorites and was excited to see they each got their own air time in the books haha. I am intrigued by Everly and excited she is getting a spinoff!!

In terms of narration, I thought it was pretty good! I sometimes had a hard time distinguishing between some of the guys but a couple were spot on and the female narrator was amazing. Automatically got book 2 on audio because the narration did a great job getting me into the story (I think a little better than when I read it). Definitely pick up this audiobook, you will want to be rescued by some pirates in your dreams 😉😁😍

Very cool

I bought this on a whim thinking it sounded interesting and unique, and who doesn't love a good pirate tale? It was far better than I could've hoped for. I can't wait to get the 2nd one!

Strong characters with great narrations

I enjoyed listening to this book. The narrators kept me listening past time to stop and made me instantly search for the next book.
I love that Cassandra did what needed to be done even when she was afraid.

Pirates and Panic

G Bailey has definitely created a different environment to most fantasy worlds with magic. Tyler Ryan, Fleet Cooper, Patrick Garrett, Aaron Sin Matthew Holland and Morais Almeida do a phenomenal bringing this story to life!

Cassandra a "changed one" should have been killed at birth, like all the other children who have the same mark as she does. She's the only female in such a long time. Starvation and poverty surround everyone as the King becomes selfish and the island people either die from starvation or a beating.

During Cassandra's escape she is saved by pirates, but they're nothing like the pirates she's heard about. 6 handsome men all vising for her attention and Cassandra is oblivious to their lust. At first I thought this might be a YA but the farther I listened it sounds like it might be a reverse harem. Looking forward to book 2 already.

There is a cliff hanger - but this book is fun, and you can picture a couple of Johnny Dep like characters as the pirates.

I didn't want it to end!

This story is so good, I love it! It's so intriguing, and I love the pirates!

Escape the Sea is definitely geared towards a younger audience. I'm 34, but I found myself laughing at parts of the story that weren't meant to be funny because of this. Overall it's a great book. I really enjoyed listening to it.

Normally I would be put off by all the different narrators, but these people all did an amazing job with Escape the Sea. I'm glad I didn't notice before buying it that there were a group of narrators because that would have made me not buy it, and it's so well done. I would have missed out. I think the narrators add another level of awesome to this book.

I'm excited to find out what happens next!
