About this listen

Highly contagious, a deadly virus rips through the country like wildfire. No one is safe.

Albuquerque, NM is quickly overrun. People drop like flies. And with no one left to keep things running, they'll soon be plunged into darkness. City services grind to a halt. Those who manage to stay uncontaminated are left to compete for quickly-dwindling supplies.

Matt's a normal office worker with an eye for being prepared. But now that a real catastrophe has hit, he quickly realizes that he's not prepared enough. Much of his gear is back at home, and he's trapped at the office. Will he be able to cross a city that's quickly descending into chaos?

Matt's coworker, Jamie, finds herself flung into the violence and insanity. Her only way to survive? Pair up with someone who seems to have it figured out. For her, that's Matt. Her only problem? Their handful of dates a month ago didn't exactly end well.

Escape the Virus is book one of Last Pandemic, a post-apocalyptic survival thriller series. It deals with real people fighting for their survival every inch of the way.

Too much, too short

First off, it's a very short story. This is filled with unlikable characters and poorly written events that often are repeated. The amount of crazy kicked off within hours are unbelievable and a stretch at best.

I like Mr. Westfall's previous work but I won't be revisiting further additions in this story.

Slow and lacking

I understand this is the first book in the series however, it’s slow. The internal conflict of the characters is over emphasized in comparison to the action. I’m a native NM and live in ABQ so I thought it was cool to have an apocalyptic book based here. It was good but not what I was expecting after reading over 50 other books in this genre. I think A. Americans’ Going Home series, Franklin Hortons’ Locker Nine series, William Forstchens’ One second after series have set the bar high. I’m going to read book 2 hoping it gets better. And what’s with almost every author writing “clips” instead of “magazine” when discussing weapon reloads??? Come on man!

To wordy.

To wordy. Kept repeating the same thoughts five different ways. Was like the author had a certain number of words to reach so stretched it out.

Cheezy

This sounds like the author was given a writing prompt and dumpt this after a weekend. From the characters to the descriptions, it is unbelievable.

Good hook for the next book

The narrator is smooth and easy to understand. Story good, people that are introduced get confusing when knowing if they are in or if they have died. That is probably my fault. I have to go back to a place in the chapter list to get back to where I left off, or think I left off. Some times I go and do tasks and then come back to the story still streaming. Thankhe only anowing thing was when a person is said to mumble the s word. I would think the s word would be spit out, or refered to in a different manner. Maybe even the c word. I have a propensity of using so call low brow wording when exposed to it. So I will not be able to continue this series. To bad. I grew up with old type guns, but I tried to get one just recently and the person said I would have to bring a extra person to the target range; so I can go for a safety certificate. He said it was to make sure I did not off my self. If that is the way a person is looked at how does any one get a gun to protect them selves. This story is close to the contavires 19 senario that is why I wanted to see what the take would be by a writer. If you are not safe with spiral thinking, tell someone that you are going to read this kind of book so they can monitor your additudes. be safe out there. sorry for the spelling mess ups.

Hoping the 2nd one is better.

I really struggled through this book. Poor Word usage. Poor character development. Narrator was ok.

A struggle to get through.

A large part of the struggle was the performance. It sounded like I was listening to some junior high schooler. Beyond that, as others have noted, certainly not in the top of it's genre and not even on par with some of the author's other works. One and done for me.

Horrible

Should be removed from Audible. Depressing. Author writes from a self defeated suicidal POV. BAD

Unrealistic characters

Definitely a struggle to finish. I only did so because I paid for it. By the end of the book I wished every one of the characters had died because any people as stupid as they were deserved not to make it.
Conversations and character rections were overdone and overdramatized.
