Publisher's summary

The days of cultural Christianity are fading. It's time to rethink normal.

Suffering and exclusion are normal in a believer's life. At least they should be. This was certainly Jesus' experience. And it's the experience of countless Christians around the world today.

No matter your social location or set of experiences, the biblical letter of 1 Peter wants to redefine your expectations and reinvigorate your hope.

Drawing on years of ministry in a Muslim-majority nation, Elliot Clark guides us through Peter's letter with striking insights for today. Whether we're in positions of power or weakness, influence or marginalization, all of us are called to live and witness as exiles in a world that's not our home. This is our job description. This is our mission. This is our opportunity.

A church in exile doesn't have to be a church in retreat.

Sharing Christ in America

This book is a real eye opener when it comes to living for Christ in America. Holiness is the key to loving our enemies and longing for them to know Christ

This book really opened my eyes to a lot of areas I can improve on as someone who loves to share the gospel.

Wonderful

The content of this book, which is centered on first Peter, is phenomenal. I would recommend this to anyone who is following Jesus and looking to learn more about how to share the gospel.

Excellent

Challenging but also encouraging about the way we evangelize. Not shrinking back when it is awkward, but pressing forward, out of our comfort zones, to bring the life changing message of new life in Christ. It may cost us something to do this but for many who have not yet heard the gospel it is a matter of life and death! The reality too is that when some believe, it may cost them much more than comfort...it could mean loss of jobs, homes, families, maybe even their lives. If they are willing to accept this as followers of Christ, shouldn't we be wiling to give up something too??? Listen and be ready to be challenged to new heights of evangelism!!

An amazing book for American Christians - a gift in word form

This book explains (using 1st Peter as a guide) to how we can live life in a God glorifying, bold, and strangely simple way.
It is full of practical examples and is refreshingly brief, while packing an amazing punch.
It is a book for all, especially in a time when the church and America seem to be very divided, it has something for everyone to hear and apply, and one that gives validity to many different approaches to both evangelism and discipleship.

A Challenge

A book to give pause and challenge to Christians and the Church in America. How have we operated in the past and how will we need to live in the future? The author’s plea is real. And, if given the time to marinate in the heart and mind, his plea is convicting.

Great book for the American Christian

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the authors message drawn from the apostle Peter's writing in his letters to the church and his own experience serving the Lord in Central Asia. An important message to help the North American Church refocus on the core missionary task of sharing the good news of Jesus and making disciples rather than a culture war pursuing preserving our rights and our comfortable way of life.

Great ideas hard to listen

The narrator tends to drop in volume and articulation at the end of each sentence. Some “s” sounds are whistled. Swapping this book out.
