About this listen

The End of Faith. The God Delusion. God Is Not Great. Letter to a Christian Nation. Best seller lists are filled with doubters. But what happens when you actually doubt your doubts?

Timothy Keller, the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City, addresses the frequent doubts that skeptics, and even ardent believers, have about religion. Using literature, philosophy, real-life conversations, and potent reasoning, Keller explains how the belief in a Christian God is, in fact, a sound and rational one. To true believers he offers a solid platform on which to stand their ground against the backlash to religion created by the Age of Skepticism. And to skeptics, atheists, and agnostics, he provides a challenging argument for pursuing the reason for God.

Critic reviews

"It is easy to understand [Timothy Keller's] appeal." (The New York Times)

"In a flood of best sellers by skeptics and atheists...Keller stands out as an effective counterpoint and defender of the faith. The Reason for God makes a tight, accessible case for reasoned religious belief." (The Washington Post)

"It's a provocative premise, in pursuit of which Keller...takes on nonbelievers from evolutionary biologists to the recent rash of atheist authors." (The Boston Globe)

Excellent book, destined to be one of my favorites

If you could sum up The Reason for God in three words, what would they be?

Makes perfect sense

What other book might you compare The Reason for God to and why?

Mere Christianity, Case for Christ series

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

He is a very animated speaker - as a reader he could be better, sound more live - but love the whole thing!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, more a study book, to hear slowly, and then a few more times. Boght the Kindle book as well, will probalby order the hard cover copy - great to study and to lend. [Can't lend the audio files nor the kindle files-yet)

Any additional comments?

I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to strengthen their personal faith, gain a broader perspective about Christianity, and have answers to give to others of why you're a believer.

Excellent!

As Christians we're called to do more than just live out our faith. We are called to reason with people and give an answer for the faith that is within us. Tim Keller equips the saints to do just that in this book.

Enlightening, inspiring, and a pleasant listen.

Absolutely loved it. Will likely listen again. Author/narrator softly challenges your thinking with both logic and spirituality that sounds like how I would imagine CS Lewis would be after a beer. Although uses quotes and documentation, adds much of his own thoughts in a cogent, tight discussion that is all the while very conversational. Not preachy, and feels like a pleasant conversation with a well trained experienced man of God who cares about the listener.

Excellent Read!

Tim Keller uses logic and knowledge with great warmth and compassion to answer lots of questions people may have. I’ve actually ordered a hard copy now so I can re-read it and highlight, underline, etc. I plan to recommend this to all of my questioning and searching friends.

The American CS Lewis

This book a deeply thoughtful analysis of the Christian faith that both Christians and nonbelievers should read. Easy to follow and inspiring especially in a time of struggle.

Fantastic read. Great, logical arguments...

I really enjoyed this book and encourage anyone, whether skeptic or believer, to read this and consider the arguments.

Remember why you believe

Keller walks the reader through the most common doubts and arguments that cause doubt to grow. With gentleness and thorough patience, he shows Christianity not just as viable but also as reasonable. It's a centering and faith-building experience.

First half very heady rest easier to follow

This is an excellent book, but I will warn you the first part in the arguments against common objections to one religion are a little heady. You may have to slow down the audio so you can fully grasp his arguments. Overall great apologetic book and even though I disagree with his take on evolution there is a clear Gospel presentation and great call to repentence and faith and encouragement to join a local church at the end. I plan to listen to it again and give it to friends. Only thing I wished for more on was he didn't deal too much with the problem of evil.

Concise case for the veracity of Christianity

If the Bible is true and Christ rose from the dead, the implications are immense. However, if he did not, the implications are also immense. We should all be truth seekers. I hope Christians and non Christians take the time to reflect on their doubts about Christianity, read this book and carefully consider the evidence as well as its implications. Do not fear truth, instead pursue it without fear where it will lead you and believe you will find joy and hope like you never thought was possible.
