Timothy Keller
New York Times best-selling author and renowned pastor Timothy Keller explores the power of prayer.
Christians are taught in their churches and schools that prayer is the most powerful way to experience God. But aside from learning prayers by rote, few receive instruction or guidance in how to make the most of this essential Christian act - how to make prayer genuinely meaningful. In Prayer, renowned pastor Timothy Keller delves into the many facets of this everyday act.
With his trademark insights and energy, Keller offers brilliant and inspirational biblical guidance, as well as specific prayers for certain situations, such as dealing with grief, loss, love, and forgiveness. He discusses ways to make prayers more personal and powerful, and how to establish a practice of prayer that works for each listener.
Dr. Keller's previous books have sold more than one million copies. His Redeemer Presbyterian Church is not only a major presence in his home base of New York, it has also helped to launch more than 250 other churches in 48 cities around the world. His teachings have already helped millions, the majority of whom pray regularly. And with Prayer, he'll show them how to find a deeper connection with God.

Thoughts on "prayer"

There were times in the book when I thought the author was venturing off-topic, but every time, Keller would weave whatever topic he was discussing into the overall work to reveal an essential truth about prayer. I'll probably sound overly poetic, here, but it was like a beautifully woven quilt - a patch about understanding God's love and mercy, here with a patch about the Lord's Prayer, there, and a patch about how the great thinkers on the subject have approached prayer, and you have an intricately-connected work that covers you in the comfort of what you were seeking - the knowledge of how to approach God more effectively.
This is a book that I will refer to often, and will probably buy in the hardcover version. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is as fascinated with the art of prayer as I am. You won't be disappointed.

If you could sum up Prayer in three words, what would they be?
This book compiles a plethora of helpful information related to the art of prayer as well as how to relate to God in a more relational manner. Highly recommend this. One Stop Shop

I did find my attention waxing and waning in the car, more a function of grounding and reiterating several points such that my attention waned than any fault of the narrator. It is naturally hard to follow an outline while listening. I preferred the attention to Scripture and the practical examples more than the frequent quoting of past Christian authors and preachers.
Overall, I recommend it and am considering buying the text to have for reference and review.
Helpful, moving, probably better to read than to listen to.
