About this listen

Forget the story of Peter Pan you know. Because in Everland, the only way to grow up is to survive.

London has been destroyed in a blitz of bombs and disease. The only ones who have survived are children, among them Gwen Darling and her siblings, Joanna and Mikey. They spend their nights scavenging and their days avoiding the ruthless Marauders - the German army led by Captain Hanz Otto Oswald Kretschmer.

Unsure if the virus has spread past England's borders but desperate to leave, Captain Hook hunts for a cure, which he thinks can be found in one of the survivors. He and his Marauders stalk the streets snatching children for experimentation. None ever return. Until the day they grab Joanna.

As Gwen sets out to save her, she meets a mysterious boy named Pete. Pete offers the assistance of his gang of Lost Boys and fierce sharpshooter Bella, who have all been living in a city hidden underground. But in a place where help has a steep price and every promise is bound by blood, it will cost Gwen. And are she, Pete, the Lost Boys, and Bella enough to outsmart Captain Hook?

Amazing story

The story stays close enough to the source to feel familiar but tells its own story at the same time enjoyed every second of it and it was narrated amazingly

Amazing story!

I had never really delved into the steam punk genre until this book and the subtle hints towards the old stories of Peter Pan were integrated beautifully. I am already getting other people into the story so you better hurry and finish the second book Wendy!!! :D

A must for fans of Peter and Hook

Loved it! A must for adults who always wished they could escape to Neverland and becoming one of the Lost Boys, or even dreamed of being a murauder. The story is an imaginative prequel to a timeless classic.

Good Idea for a Peter Pan Spin-off

I liked the author's reimagining of the classic Peter Pan story but I do not think it was executed well. I understand it is for young audiences but the writing could have been more sophisticated. It felt a little stunted like she was on the cusp of something but did not quite get there. I know there are further books in the series so perhaps her writing evolves but I am not motivated to continue the series because this book was not a page turner for me.

I listened to this book with my daughters.

listened with my 9,11 and 13 year old daughters. It kept us all entertained. It does have a few places where it got a little dark for my younger daughters.

Unique Take On a Classic, Solid Performances

I enjoyed this re-imagining quite a lot! It was neat to see classic characters through a different lens, and I liked that there were two narrators. I think that Ms. Hardingham's performance was a touch more enjoyable for me. She sounded young enough to pass for Gwen, and she had a broader repertoire of accents and tones for the various characters.

Mr. West gave a solid performance, but I kept forgetting that Hook wasn't supposed to be much older than the protagonists in this version. So that messed with my immersion a bit.

There were also some issues with pacing here and there. Not enough that I was tempted to stop by any means! In fact, it has made some long car trips and even doing dishes less of a chore and I'm sad to be done so quickly! I think I will be passing it along to my daughter.

Could have been alot better

This writer has alot of raw talent and knows how to keep one interested, even if you are disappointed with the story. There are alot of creative ideas in here but the over all story was poorly thought out and didn't contain anything thought provoking. I was mostly disappointed in it's lack of depth. it could have been alot more than what felt like a 14 year old girl's fan fiction.
