I enjoyed listening to it.

I am surprised that I liked this book I usually listen to sci-fi and fantasy. Paranormal mysteries are hard for me to like especially with romance but this series is very well written, narration was top notch and once I finished I bought the others in the series.

A nice treat, unexpectedly great!

I will admit to often judging a book by its cover; literally. I know we shouldn’t do that but honestly, it really does help ME figure out if I want to even take a peek at a book. I was randomly scrolling through when I saw the cover for this series and I was immediately intrigued. I will be even more honest, the cover on the box set is WAY more appealing than the individual books. I probably wouldn’t have bothered if I only saw those. Ok, I’ll stop waxing poetic about the cover art.

I was pleasantly surprised with these stories. To begin, the narrator’s voice is so soothing and pleasant. She also does an amazing job of distinguishing characters by voice. The variations were consistent through each novel. The storyline itself is fun, in-depth, and easy to follow along with in general. There were times I would have to stop what I was doing to be sure I heard what was going on. These novels possess a slight air of mystery in that there is a case that needs to be solved but its not DEEP, if that makes sense. The stories play out in the end kind of like Sherlock Holmes novels in that everything is revealed at the end. But not super in-depth. Some things the listener can piece together themselves and only be surprised by one or two details. None of this is a slight against the body of work, mind you. I guess I am just explaining HOW the stories work.

Overall, I really enjoy this series and am about to go purchase the second set of books now. Bear in mind that no book is without its negatives. Here are my takes: Some people said they got annoyed with the “woe is me, I am unloved” aspect of the story. I get the premise of that argument, but don’t let that deter you from these stories. Its not heavy laden with those thoughts. The main character doesn’t weep in a corner or faint with sadness at every turn. She is a lady but she also has bite. She’s quite refreshing. Also, one must remember the timeframe this story is written in. Next, there is a big reveal in the story that I didn’t really like. NO SPOILERS. For me, it was a little contradictory. Parts of it didn’t line up with the rest of the story or at least that portion of the story. That was my only true disappointment but I quickly got over it.

Enjoyable tale of magical beings

Nice series to listen while traveling. I usually hate anything romantic but it was kept to a minimum and only used to advance the storyline. The characters were well written and the narrator gave them life without going overboard trying to give them voices. I have already bought the next section of books to see where thing go next.

Entertaining with a touch of romance

If you like paranormal mysteries, you will enjoy this series. Hannah is a strong heroine and there are lots of good ideas behind this version of the London society in 18th or 19th century. The hero is likable as well. The romance is done with a very light touch. Narration is top notch. Enjoy!

Manners & Monsters Collection is like Beer,an acquired taste you learn to love before you know it!

This author & story premise was new to me having been out of the reading world for almost 5 years I was hopeful the recorded books would satisfy my need to read again but I’ve found that some of my favorite types of books don’t translate to my personal taste while discovering trying new types of books do I used to read roughly a book a day then because of a side effect of medicine I can only read @ certain times of day, never @ night reading fast doesn’t translate to “ hearing fast” either I am not complaining it could be so much worse ant that brings me back to my review I loved the different style of period romance and fantasy sci-fi It would be great if the next 3 were turned into a boxed set as well the performer got on my nerves from time to time drawing out the S sound it’s not every time but when they’re grouped together it sounds like a box of snakes-not in an oh how scary way- but annoying If you are contemplating something a little different listen or read this collection I don’t think you’ll be disappointed other than you have pay for the last 3 separately but that’s real life for you Good Luck Tilly Wallace with whatever comes next
