About this listen

A shattered life. A killer for hire. Can she stop?

Her assignments were always to kill someone. That's what a hitman—or hitwoman—is paid to do—and that is what she does. Then comes a surprise assignment—keep someone alive!

She is hired to protect Virginia Martin, the stunning and brilliant chief technology officer of a hot startup with an innovation that will change the world. This new job catches her at a time in her life when she's disillusioned, even depressed. It's not the crushing depression she'd suffered when she'd lost her family and abruptly started this career, but over time, the life of a hired killer has taken a toll on her spirit.

She's confused about the “why”, but she addresses her charge as she always does, with skill and stealth, determined to keep this young CTO alive in the midst of the twinned worlds of innovation and high finance.

Some people have to die as she discharges her responsibly to protect this superstar woman amid the crumbling worlds of money and future technical wonders.

The spirit of an assassin—and her nameless dog—permeates this struggle to help a young woman as powerful forces build to deny her.

Fans of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Dexter will love Exit Strategy.

Exit Strategy stands on its own and follows Endings in this series.

Choices

Instead of killing she must keep her target alive.
Well written and especially narrated as the assassin grapples with her life choices. One can feel her mental anguish as she contemplates her exit

Midlife Murder? Yes, please.

I had a problem with the main character not really knowing anything but things falling into place anyway. I was rather disappointed when a chapter didn't have anyone die. LOL enjoyable story and it sounds like it's only the beginning for our anti-hero, assassin... or something more.

Hit woman at a crossroads

This a great sequel to Endings. The assassin has come to crossroads. She is no longer sure she wants this life.
Then comes in assignment for she will protect someone. But all is not as it seems. Her past is not all that she thought it was. What will she choose? This is a fast paced novel that will keeping you listening or turning the pages in whatever format you choose

Jennifer Wren Pickens does an amazing job as narrator as she uses her voice to add suspense, indecision, humor.

Enjoyable suspense story

In Exit Strategy, our main character decides to put her assassination career to rest. After a while she gets called to a different mind of assignment - this time to protect someone, which she ends up taking on.
As might be apparent from this micro synopsis, the storyline is pretty different from Endings and doesn’t involve the same kind of difficult subject matter that Endings did.

I have enjoyed this audiobook quite a bit, though there were a couple of things in the story that irked me a bit.

All in all it was very entertaining and I am looking forward to future titles in the series. The narrator, Jennifer Pickens, did an amazing job bringing the story and characters to life, as well as the main character’s inner monologues.

However, i feel like some of the plot didn’t quite add up or that it was… unrealistic, in the realm of a fictional novel. In Endings, our MC was a very savvy, street smart woman, and in Exit Strategy she partly is, too, but at the same time she’s also clueless and almost… careless a few times; and yet, things end up falling into place. As much as I love the dog, the whole premise of leaving him unattended for all this time - be it at home or in the hotel room - is… questionable. It’s a cute idea to have a canine companion, but i feel the solution could be a tad more realistic and still fitting the narrative.

I do like that our MC seems to start establishing some human connections again - be it Curtis, our newsreporter (i wouldn’t mind a budding romance); her handler; some other people I don’t want to spoil.

All in all I definitely recommend the book as some fun, interesting entertainment.
