About this listen

Five strangers drawn together at a roadside bar on the outskirts of Las Vegas. One rampaging monster, escaped from a secret facility, absorbing victims and accumulating biomass as it moves north from Arizona. The miles between them rapidly dwindling.

No, this is not the world’s best math problem, it’s Exponential. The rollicking, brutal, gory, and strangely poignant horror novel from Adam Cesare. Criminals and screw-ups need to face down science run amok in this literary tribute to films like Tremors and The Blob.

“Exponential is an excellent novel, one of the best creature features I’ve read in years...” (Horror After Dark)

“Adam Cesare’s mix of grim violence and old school horror movie references make for a great read.” (Rue Morgue)

"Exponential is fast-paced fun, a rollicking monster movie in 200 quick-moving pages." (Ain't It Cool)

Adam cesare is the best horror writer I have read.

I loved this book so much. It is absolutely perfect and his voice, as always, shines through!

Way more fun than you'd think.

A good mix of Stephen King and Tom Taylor, really want a sequel to this, both the performance and the writing give a really fun caring quality to each character you meet no matter what happens to them. I shouldn't be caring about a amorphous blob monster but by the end I kinda did and it was hard not to root for it. My only complaint would be it could be longer and the mysteries wrapped up a bit more.

Great SciFi Monster Horror

Adam Cesare writes great novels. I had a hard time keeping up with the characters and I know that was because I could only listen to the story here and there, but I kept getting lost on who was who and who just died. Totally my fault, and not a bad story, but I walked away thinking this wasn’t one of his best books. Totally was on-board with the plot, even liked the characters, just got lost from time to time.

It had a melding feeling of a lot of older movies. I was most moved by the beginning. Cesare really set the stage for this story with his complete lack of regard for someone I was hoping to be a main character. Instead of the slightly touched janitor, you get a useless junkie and I kept thinking the janitor might have been more helpful, even though he wasn’t hooked on meth and was the the catalyst for the events that take place. Regardless, Adam gets you in touch with the characters and you have no choice but to connect with them and be on their side.

My only real complaint is that I am pretty sure you can’t hand roll shotguns shells in a bar while it is being attacked by a monster. While you can load a shell with meth, pretty sure you need a press

Matt Godfrey does a fantastic job with stories like these. He really puts you in the setting of the bar and made you feel like you were right there.

Old school creature feature.

Adam Cesare's Exponential is a great example of a B-movie old school creature feature. While no real backstory is given about the creature other than it's from an experimental lab, that doesn't matter. In a story like this it's all about the creature attacking and the struggle for our 'heroes' to survive. Cool cast of characters and some really fun action. If you like movies like The Blob or The Thing, this story is for you. Could totally see this being made into a movie.

Matt Godfrey does a great job with the narration. This is the first book I've heard performed by him, but I'll definitely listen to more of his work in the future.

80's horror

To think all of this crazy horror starts out with janitor saving a tiny mouse he names Felix to cause such havoc and mayhem. You have to listen closely to enjoy the characters my favorite being Vicky, there are drunks, junkies, cops and meth which adds to the fun listen. Recommend if you enjoy 80’s horror and gore. I think this is the authors best thus far. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you

Brisk pace

Not a particular long book nor a particular complex premise.

Just a lab rat that turns in to a monster and proceeds to cause mayhem. I always thought it’d be interesting if mice fought back. It’s a fun and short book well worth your time for a credit

A muck that goes amok!

Great little monster story that goes at a nice fast pace. Has a killer cinematic vibe and I loved the unusual make up of the creature.Enjoyed it so much I binged the entire thing in a day! Some minor quibbles about the story beats but I'd love to see more adventures with our hungry pal "Felix". Looking forward to hearing more from Adam

Not Overly Impressed

The whole thing feels like just a drawn out expansion of a short story. Lots of time spent on character development that really goes no where. Some of the back story on these people seem excessive considering how fast they get killed off. Then produce mysterious people to eliminate them quickly in a couple of chapters. The monster, why not just call it “The Blob”.

Good listen

Enjoyed it. Like watching 50s horror films when I was a kid. Only quibble very end a bit rushed, and confused. Still worth listening.
