About this listen

Joe works at a facility that performs human experimentation.

His work just followed him home.

The government wanted to unlock hidden abilities in the human mind.

They put subjects in extreme sensory deprivation.

All the test subjects went violently insane.

But the research continued.

Today it has been perfected.

Almost perfected.

From the author of In My Father’s Basement comes another chilling novel that's a must-listen for fans of horror. Gruesome, gripping, and terrifyingly real!

Yessssss... Gory but Worth It (No Spoilers)

If you can get passed the mental image of ripping flesh, then this is a GREAT listen! Personally I didn't find the gore to be too excessive or over the top. Storyline was creative and made sense. Makes you wonder how far people [our government] are willing to go during experiments. Eeek.

If you'd like a pretty decent mind f*ck, you'll enjoy this one.

Great concept, a little messy at the end

The build-up is great and the story itself is unique. A man oversees human experiments but the subjects become powerful enough to exact revenge on him for overseeing the experiments. There are twists along the way of course and you don't know who to trust. I wish it was less gore-y and more psychological. For those who have read it, the part where he is questioning everything was really intriguing to me and I wish they would have gone that route. Overall it was a great read, and the end did tie everything up really well. Worth the time!

Just the right recipe for a horror/thriller pie!

This narrator is fabulous, he knows how to story-tell, which is different than reading, changing cadence and tone exactly when necessary. He is easy and enjoyable to listen to.

The story was good, gory when needed, and thrilling when not. Although a little predictable by the very end, everything else kept me on the edge of my seat & I couldn't stop listening.
In fact, when it did end, I was left hoping for more.

Good story just not scary

I can appreciate what should be the horror part of the story, but it just didn't achieve it for me.

The story is sound and the narration is seamless. I did enjoy it, just didn't get the willies I was hoping for.

Loved this so much more than expected!

Part scifi, part horror, part suspense. This novel has it all. Yeah, I kind of saw much of the plot coming ahead of time, but somehow I still bought into the suspense and horror despite that. Can I say it was unpredictably predictable? The events from the novel seem frighteningly possible in today's real world where politicians would be quite willing to sacrifice a few to stop terrorists from killing many.

Part of the reason for the 5 star review is that this story stayed in my head way past the time I finished the audiobook. I thought about the events in the novel a lot. It says something profound about our American way of life and our willingness to do bad things in the pursuit of the common good. The story is both big and small at the same time. You also feel for the main character and his daughter. I couldn't decided if he was the hero or the villain. I suppose he was a bit of both. He was a tormented man doing bad things for good reasons. I enjoyed the complexities of the storyline and will probably still be thinking about this one for some time to come.
