About this listen

At the end of a metaphysical conference, reluctant attendee Camille Dare discovers an envelope with her name on it. Filled with travel documents, a photograph, and bloody scarf material, the source of the envelope and its contents remain anonymous, but the directive is clear: Find the missing person in this very unusual case.

The missing person, Katherine Agurre, comes from a high-profile, influential and wealthy family who have long since become estranged from her. Although they’ve never met, Camille is worried about Katherine’s wellbeing, as are others in the metaphysical community, including a tarot reader, an astrologer, a retired world traveler, and an internationally known psychic.

A growing obsession with the missing person case and her own quest for self-understanding compel Camille to begin a trip to meet people she never knew and locations she never expected to visit.

Inside the Munster cathedral in the Old Town square of Freiburg, Germany, Camille meets a strange man who wears a collection of religious icons. India is an assault not only to the senses but to everything Camille finds comfortable and safe. She doesn't know anyone in Asheville, North Carolina, but drives toward the small mountain city with little more than the cryptic astrological chart that has led her there.

Who is the anonymous source of these travels, and why was Camille the target? If she’s real, if she’s alive, can anyone find Katherine Agurre if she doesn’t want to be found?

Camille started her travels by choice until there is no choice anymore. Each step of the way raises the stakes, not just for Katherine but for Camille as well.

I love Wendy Webb but…

I’m 1/2 way thru and find I’m unable to finish. I can’t decide if the story line is weak or if I’m not able to pay attention to the narrator. Her cadence feels rushed (it makes me slightly anxious) and her inflection (?) is off - as if she thinks she’s at the end of a sentence or thought, but when she sees the next line she realizes it IS the same sentence. The reason I’m bailing at this point is that the main character is in India and 20-30 minutes has been spent describing (too quickly with odd cadence) this “exotic country”. The scene would be a throw away scene in a movie and perhaps read differently would have been pleasant and enchanting. I can’t tell. The narrator’s voice is lovely and I would listen to her work were it to IMO improve a bit in these areas. I wish the narrator well and hope the review is of value.

Eye of the Gargoyle

Not one.of her best, tried to stay with it but did not finish. I usually enjoy her books very much and have several of her others but this did not motivate me at all.

Slow

The story was anticlimactic and dull. This book was not her best work. I've read all of her books and loved them. Disappointed in this one.

Apparently NOT my Wendy Webb

I wish I'd read the reviews before wasting money on this book. It's AWFUL. Boring, and the narrator sounds almost like an electronic voice. I'm sad I used a credit on this - learned my lesson! This is apparently not the same Wendy Webb I thought I was getting, whose books I have enjoyed immensely. No wonder it was so different and so horrible. Don't waste your money; worse, I can't return it. Ugh.

this is not the Wendy Webb you think it is

I could not even get through half of it. the story is terrible, the writing is juvenile, the reading is atrocious. The narrator sounds like an AI bot. If you are looking for a Wendy Webb book, this is not the Wendy Webb that you're looking for. It was absolutely terrible, and what a waste of money.

Is this the same author?

I read and loved all of Wendy Webbs books so I bought this one strictly on her name. I don't know if is the story or the narrator but something is way off in this book. Doesn't seem like the same author.

This is not with the read

I’m a huge Wendy Webb fan but this was a disappointment from start to finish. The narration was unpleasant to listen to as well. The plot never moved in any interesting way. I trudged through this book because I had bought it but strongly suggest that you not waste time or money on this title. Very disappointed.

Choose any other Wendy Webb’s

I have read / listened to all other Wendy Webb’s titles. This book doesn’t even sound like her. The story is unnecessarily bigoted, the detailed negative descriptions regarding the India part of the story don’t add to the overall story. The story doesn’t flow. The narrator seems to be rushing to tell the story, which contributes to the number of times I felt to quit the book. I rated all other WW books as 5s, this one ….did not live up to WW standards

Don't waste your time or money

I can't believe I paid to listen to the narrator drone on for hours. I guess I kept thinking the story would get better to make up for the awful narrator. it didn't . I usually will return the audio after a couple of chapters, if I don't care for it but I have listened to other Wendy Webbs book they started out slow but ended up enjoyable. Not this one.
