In Wendy Walker's thrilling novel Don't Look for Me, the greatest risk isn’t running away. It’s running out of time.
One night, Molly Clarke walked away from her life.
She doesn't want to be found.
Or at least, that's the story.
The car abandoned miles from home.
The note found at a nearby hotel.
The shattered family that couldn’t be put back together.
They called it a “walk away.” It happens all the time. Women disappear, desperate to leave their lives behind and start over. But is that what really happened to Molly Clarke?

Don't Look for Me is:
“Exemplary. Distinctive, well-developed characters complement the skillfully paced plot. This moving look at the bond between a mother and her children reinforces Walker’s place at the top of the genre.” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)
“Gripping...with unexpected twists.... You’ve got a cracking mystery on your hands.” (Adrian McKinty, author of The Chain)
“A nailbiter.... So much more than a twisty thriller. It’s heartbreaking portrait of a family coping with grief and an insightful study of guilt and blame, gaslighting and agency. If you love fast-paced page-turners with relatable, flawed characters, look no further!" (Angie Kim, author of Miracle Creek)
"Sharp, nuanced, utterly real, and absolutely terrifying, this beautifully written and emotionally powerful novel is Walker at her best!" (Karen Dionne, author of The Marsh King's Daughter)
"Unsettling in the very best way and truly riveting." (Samantha Downing, author of My Lovely Wife)
"A pulse-pounding, thrill ride of a novel with heart." (Kathleen Barber, author of Truth Be Told)
"A master class in psychological suspense." (Cristina Alger, author of Girls Like Us)

The book sets itself up well enough, establishing the back story and family dynamics; Molly and Nic and the rest are interesting enough to warrant emotional reactions to the plot...you know, it's fine. But then things just drag on for a bit. Around the halfway point I was pretty sure I knew how the story would end, and I thought about just skipping to the end to confirm my suspicions. I didn't. I listened through and let the story play out, and I'm not mad about it. Glowing review, I know. The story picks up in the back third, and I was only partially right about the ending.
-1 star because I didn't LOVE it, and -1 star because it let me consider not finishing it. Therese Plummer's rendition was pretty good, save for a few lines that were noticeably too much. I think Emma in the Night is a better story, and I think the reviewers comparing this book to Gone Girl are wrong.
