About this listen

It’s the start of something huge. From New York Times best seller Pepper Winters comes a new dark romance full of decadent angst, monstrous heroes, and pages chock-full of lust.

A house hidden in the middle of nowhere. A man who’s lived alone for a decade. A woman who trespasses on his solitude. A love full of hate, as well as hunger. The thing about my life is...I was never in control of it. I just I thought I was. I thought I had everything figured out - a good career, fun hobbies, a bright future, but everything changed when I found an ivy-cloaked house, tucked in a forgotten valley, hiding a man who corrupted my world forever.I thought I was successful, until he showed me fortune and happiness could be snatched away in an instant. I believed I was blessed, but really, I was cursed. Cursed to become a plaything for a monster. Cursed to become a prisoner just because I trespassed.

Now, I know nothing. I am nothing. I’m just his.

Please note this is a dark romance and not suitable for people who have triggers. Content included can be hard to hear and is recommended only for people who like dark romance.

Emotional ride

Another great book by Pepper Winters. She writes book that are so riveting and keep you enthralled until the end. I really like Gemma. She is a strong character willing to do whatever she has to to survive. Kasan gave me so many mixed feelings. My heart broke for him after learning about his past. After that ending I really need the next book! Tor Thom and Charley Ongel did a great job with narrating Gem and Kas. The characters really were brought to life by them!

A nice listen

Not at all bad but it felt repetitive in their inner dialogue. that sounds bad but overall it was a great listen.

4.5 steamy stars

Fable of Happiness book 1 will take you for a wild, dirty ride. Pepper gives you some beauty and beast vibes with a dark twist that will have you devouring this book.

A young woman goes on a rock climbing adventure when she trespasses upon a house in a forgotten valley, not realizing a dark individual lurks inside. Taken prisoner, she soon discovers he now owns her mind, body and soul. Dark and gritty, this story held me captive until the very end. I absolutely loved the narration! They did an amazing job!

If you love GREAT narration, listen to this story

wow. I am just AMAZED at how perfectly dark and sexy and just INCREDIBLE this audio was. Tor and Charley did SUCH a wonderful job recreating Kas and Gemma, I am not sure if anyone else could have done a better job. The chemistry, the intensity, the magnitude that I felt in my chest (and lady bits) during the entire story just astounded me. I loved this so much. I knew from the moment Kas ran butt naked towards Gemma in his house when she trespassed that it was going to be a wild ride and it was! That was a crazy ending that left me needing more! Cannot wait for the next story!!! 5 stars!!!

It's A Yes From Me!

This book was such a complete surprise to me. I honestly shouldn't be so shocked because this author is amazing, but here I am. I’ve just got to say you have to go into this book as blind as a bat. I did and I could be more thankful. I loved the story, I thought it was quite unique, engaging and really kept me on my toes. I had no clue how things were going to turn out and that ending really got me. The audio for this book was absolutely phenomenal. I loved the dual narration. I’m about 99% sure that this is my first time ever listening to both narrators, Tor Thom and Charley Ongel. They did such a great job with this book and really kept me engaged the entire time. Make sure you check out the triggers before you read this book. It’s pretty dark and won't be suitable for all readers, but it sure is for me! I can't wait to read/listen to book two. I need to know what happens.

Definitely different from Pepper Winter’s books

Story/characters: This storyline is definitely different from any other I’ve read or listened to. The setting is super immersive. Remoteness, a fantasy palace, a fabled house. A house of beauty but full of pain. And then our characters. For sure the hero Kassen has the upper hand when the book starts but he’s been on the other end of the power spectrum (and more to come on that. Only hints here and there have been revealed). And Gemma is definitely resourceful and has a will to survive as strong as Kassen. Two people struggling to trust but desiring each other.

I love the push and pull between them, and it really picks up toward the end. The physical connection explodes off the charts; it’s a matter of the emotional connection reaching there as well in the next two books.

Maybe because Kassen and Gemma are supposed to get 3 books, I felt like everything happened so fast and the books felt shorter. Because the first ~8 chapters kind of set up the characters before things really got started. And it ends in quite a cliff hanger if you know what I mean.

Narration: I love how Pepper’s books are duet narration. I’m new to Tor Thom and Charley Ongel. The male narrator has a nice gruff voice. And I like the heroine’s dialogue voice. Her prose narration, however, feels slightly over dramatic like Savannah Peachwood rather than a causal calm I’d imagined. There was one line where the male narrator was supposed to speak but the female narrator read it (overlooked editing I guess). Which is a shame because that line would’ve been so sexy if the male narrator read it. But those things happen 🤷🏻‍♀️

What did I just read!? Pepper Winters is…. The best!!!

I am so in love with these characters! Kassel and I, however, have a love-hate relationship! He’s been so badly damaged by his past, that my heart aches for him. My husband keeps telling me it’s only a book, it’s not real…. But it feels real.. because Pepper Winters is a Master…. Or Mistress .. of creating stories so real, so heart-wrenchingly real.

When Gemma takes her first steps into Kassen’s valley…. You can feel it… feel that something terrible is going to happen!!! And it just gets better from there. It keeps you glued!!! I could not stop once I started…. I can’t explain how much I loved this.

Tor Thom and Charley Ongel are narrators I have heard often, and they did a good job with the characters.

Another phenomenon by Pepper Winters

One of my favorite authors is Pepper Winters did it again! This heart wrenching tale beautifully and tragically told by Kessan and revealed to a strong, independent rock climber Gemma Ashford. I love the tenacious pull btw both of them. It was magic chemistry and the duet narration was fantastic perfection. Beware it ends with a cliff hanger and I am devastated to find out I have to wait for book two to be released in August.
