Publisher's summary

The Zondervan Biblical and Theological Lectures series provides a unique audio learning experience. Unlike a traditional audiobook's direct narration of a book's text, Faith Alone: Audio Lectures include high quality live-recordings of college-level lectures that cover the important points from each subject as well as relevant material from other sources.

Historians and theologians have long recognized that at the heart of the 16th-century Protestant Reformation were five declarations, often referred to as the "solas": sola scriptura, solus Christus, sola gratia, sola fide, and soli Deo gloria. These five statements summarize much of what the Reformation was about, and they distinguish Protestantism from other expressions of the Christian faith. Protestants place ultimate and final authority in the Scriptures, acknowledge the work of Christ alone as sufficient for redemption, recognize that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone, and seek to do all things for God’s glory.

In Faith Alone: Audio Lectures, together with accompanying book Faith Alone, renowned biblical scholar Thomas Schreiner looks at the historical and biblical roots of the doctrine of justification by faith. He summarizes the history of the doctrine, looking at the early church and the writings of several of the Reformers. His sessions take learners through examination of key texts in the Old and New Testaments and introduce some of the contemporary challenges to the Reformation teaching of sola fide. Faith Alone: Audio Lectures is accessible to a variety of audiences - college and seminary students, pastors, lay learners, and anyone interested in learning about the key doctrines of Christianity.

Five hundred years after the Reformation, the doctrine of justification by faith alone still needs to be understood and proclaimed. In Faith Alone: Audio Lectures, you will learn how the rallying cry of "sola fide" is rooted in the Scriptures and how to apply this sola in a fresh way in light of today’s contemporary challenges.

Excellent and Insightful

Tom Schreiner does such and excellent job of teaching the importance of this doctrine as well as the importance of being precise in our understanding of it. I realized several small errors in how I thought about justification, and this helped tremendously. It is also done with so much care and clear love towards other believers who disagree. I have read some polemics where the author comes across and angry or belittling. Not so with Dr Schreiner. Highly recommend

Good for understanding reformed doctrine.

This is a good book for understanding the differences inside reformed doctrine camps and the history of those differences.

Sincerely,
Pastor Paul Trimble
