Publisher's summary

Face toward the light of choice while shadows of consequence loom behind.

Choice. Such a simple word cloaked by unseen consequences that only become clear once a decision has been made.

John is given an impossible choice but can see the outcomes as if only a sheer veil playfully obscured the consequences—teasing untold guilt and pain no matter the decision. The knife hurts more when you see it coming.

A king’s life hangs in the balance, suspended between life and death in a frozen prison. The fate of two worlds awaits an outcome.

Onyx clouds edged in glowing white condense over the Earthen plane while a hole to another dimension grows in Faerie. A horror of horrors, truly maddening in size, writhes just beyond the opening door.

An innocent heart, corrupted by grief, screams to be rescued while a queen seeks an unlikely ally in a land of eternal punishment and deceit.

John stands at the precipice of destiny: Faerie above, Hell below.

Will he rescue the one he loves from an obvious trap? Or will the innocent youth, whose fate is entwined with our own world, force John to be the hero we need, even to the detriment of his own heart?

The choice is his....

If you like Jim Butcher, Shayne Silvers, Cameron O’Connell, Kevin Hearne, Steve McHugh, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Shannon Mayer, or K.F. Breene, you won't be able to pause the highly addictive Preternatural Chronicles.

Nine out of 10 people who recommend things loved Hunter Blain’s books, according to a rigged and heavily biased research study overseen by Argento Publishing....

PRETERNATURAL, take that Capt. America!

Capt America, who looks an awful lot like the Human torch, may think PRETERNATURAL is an @$$hole word, but I think it's a great Fantasy series. It's so great, I actually read the books and listen to the audiobooks, especially since it's narrated by that Jack Daniels guy. However, if you don't like vampires that don't sparkle, are hundreds of years old and don't have haircuts like the high school girls they pine over, and love to quote movies, or you don't like well written books that are hilarious and action packed with a bit of drama and suspense to balance it out, or you just don't like life and the awesome things in it, this series isn't for. That is all, carry on!

The Vampire Formerly known as "John"

John the Vampire has been the topic of conversation. At my house we talk about John's adventures, the good things, the bad things, every character is so detailed we feel like we actually know these supernatural badasses. The stories are great. There's so many ups and downs. I can't wait to have to go somewhere so I can listen to Luke Daniels do each character to perfection. Just a great series. I've listened to Steve McHugh (absolutely love Helloquin chronicles) and Shane Silvers , Templeverse. Also very good. There's just something about John's character, knowing it's based on Hunter's friend who has passed away. Really makes me feel like I've known all the characters all my life. Absolutely a great series. Fantastic book, can't wait for book 10 to be released!

Emotional Rollercoaster

I'm truly at a loss for words... my emotions were thrown around with such wild abandon, I had to listen to the entire book twice. Amazing performance as usual from Like, but Hunter knocked this story out of the park. I'll definitely be back for more abuse when book ten is released.

Excellent sequel

FALL FROM GRACE is the ninth book of the Preternatural Chronicles that is a Supernatural meets Dresden Files urban fantasy series. The premise is John Cook is one of the last vampires in the world and when there's only one left, Hell will be unleashed on the world. John is against this and has allied with Heaven to prevent Lucifer from invading everything. The books have been a cosmic fantasy for some time with Hell, Fairyland, and other major events driving the plot.

This volume has a lot of fallout from the previous book's heartbreaking end, however. John was manipulated by Gabriel into getting his best friend's family killed in order to stop a time paradox that threatened reality. Depweg is understandably of the mind that this is unforgivable and, to be fair, it is. Their relationship can never be the same again and I appreciate that Hunter Blain doesn't shy away from changing one of the bedrocks of his series.

Another plotline I'm enjoying is Lily (Lilith) is told to plot to get Ulfric, General of Hell's Armies, to plot against Lucifer Morningstar. I actually hoped they would succeed because Lucifer is a somewhat flat character compared to Ulfric and I think it would be a much more interesting conflict between John vs. his creator. Seeing Lucifer taken down a peg or two would feel good in this, I gotta tell you.

We also have an awesome conflict between John and an alien otherwordlly THING from beyond the veil that doesn't fit into the Christian, Pagan, Hell divide that I thought was a nice change of pace. I sort of wish they'd harnessed it against Hell because have I mentioned how much I want to see Lucifer get taken down a peg or nine? Yeah.

The narration is fantastic too.

Oh man

This was the hardest book to listen too so far. I kept thinking “Man, I’m hating what’s happening to these characters.” Then it struck me that “I’m scarred” for them. What a fantastic author!! I care about these characters and am scarred for what’s happening to them (a bit of a recurring theme here).

ever spend 12hr on a book in one day and wonder how did i even make food or did i just eat peanut butter out of a jar with out thinking about it? yea head is tired. eyes are dry from some thing that must blew in my eye a few times. heart is uplifted and sadden at the same time.. want the over all story to come to a end but also want it to go on forever.

Luke did a kick ass job. and hunter ehhh ok one this time around. making me tear up at the begging kind of sucks but sucks with what the vampires do..

Another Home Run by Hunter & Luke

I’m not really sure if there is anything left to say about one of my favorite, IF NOT #1 Favorite writer/audio narrator duo, that I haven’t all ready said in past reviews. I will say, that after a certain point, John starts to show signs of maturity & restraint when it comes to specific situations. Normally you’d expect juvenile, flippant behavior or remarks from our hero/anti hero, but he does manage to hold back. I feel like when this series ends, however it may be.. John will have certainly earned his rest or retirement if you will. Almost like a battle worn cowboy, warrior walks off into the sunset after the big boss fight is over.
