About this listen

Fate left the beautiful Justine Drussard stranded in Tombstone, and desperation made her take a job in a local brothel. She counts on her wits and acting ability, but her plans backfire when York Masters, a rough-riding stranger with a sun-drenched smile and a secret of his own, pays for an evening with Justine to save her from less savory options.

His tantalizing touch makes her weak with desire - a feeling she’d given up on for good - and each hungry kiss leaves her wanting more. Helpless to stop herself, Justine is swept into a dangerous and seductive world by a passion as scorching as the desert sun.

Editorial reviews

Deborah Camp's The Fallen Angel tells the story of innocent Justine Drussard who, when stranded in Tombstone, resorts to working in a brothel. She manages to get by with her purity intact by employing sleeping pills and stellar acting skills…until steamy stranger York Masters arrives. Suddenly, Justine finds herself helpless to resist York's charms. Melanie Haynes' sultry performance heightens the passion of this romance, navigating the tone from sweet to sexy seamlessly. She masterfully varies the pace as well: leisurely and gentle for those intimate scenes between Justine and York and speedy for the exciting action sequences.

Tombstone tale.

What did you love best about Fallen Angel?

York Masters character.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that it took place in Tombstone and it tied in characters like Doc Holiday & Wyatt Earp. A little campy, but fun.

Have you listened to any of Melanie Haynes’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. I really enjoyed the reader. She's an excellent narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I had a hard time connecting to Justine which made it difficult to follow the story at times.

Any additional comments?

Overall this is a good western romance novel. The only thing that I really didn't like was the main character, Justine. I didn't connect with her and it made getting through the book difficult at times. Otherwise I liked the book. I loved the other main character, York, as well as the side characters. It was fun. I would recommend it to other listeners.

Boy saves girl with a twist

Where does Fallen Angel rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Out of 10, I rank a 9.

What other book might you compare Fallen Angel to and why?

I can't compare this book to another I have read. Even though it was a girl in trouble, it had a twist. There was a great mystery of what was happening to the girls of a brothel. This was one where the woman helped the man helping her back.

What about Melanie Haynes’s performance did you like?

Melanie did a great job of all the different voices. The only accent that didn't sound prefect was the french accent. But she did an excellent job of all the different men voices. Out of a 10, she would be a 9.5.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have like to but it was too long. I hated having to stop because the action moved so quickly.

Any additional comments?

The story was excellent. It kept me guessing all the way through the book. Perfect ending.
