About this listen

Marlowe is a pickpocket, a housebreaker - and a better actress than any professional on the stage. She runs with the Covent Garden Cubs, a gang of thieves living in the slums of London's Seven Dials. It's a fierce life, and Marlowe has a hard outer shell. But when she's alone, she allows herself to think of a time before - a dimly remembered life when she was called Elizabeth.

Maxwell, Lord Dane, is intrigued when his brother, a hired investigator, ropes him into his investigation of the fiercely beautiful hellion. He teaches her to navigate the social morass of the ton, but Marlowe will not escape so easily. Instead Dane is drawn into her dangerous world, where the student becomes the teacher and love is the greatest risk of all.

It was a good read

I had read many wonderful reviews of this book by people whose reviews I generally agree with. I enjoyed the book but was definitely not wowed by it. I felt that the narrator was over acting at times.

Different storyline.

I’m not sure the title of this book is appropriate. Never did the Earl have fun! Initially he was totally frustrated by Marlowe, the female lead. Finally after deciding that she wasn’t all that bad, she entangles him in a life or death situation. Definitely not fun! I’m undecided about the development of both characters. I’m not sure, even now, if I totally liked Dane. He seemed a bit heavy handed in the beginning and, although he went through some major changes in overall outlook about society, still remained heavy handed after their marriage. I guess there are only so many changes a man can make in a short period of time. I really liked Marlowe. She had been on her own her whole life and still somehow maintained herself even when having to live with evil most of the time. She was a good girl and stayed stable when faced with awful home situations and living conditions. She was a thief, however, only to the extent to stay alive. How many of us if faced with the same choices wouldn’t do the same thing. And through it all she kept her sense of humor and remained grounded as you can tell by some of the things she said to the Earl. The story was fun and the narrator did a superb job. Just change the title.

Fantastic heroine

No fair making me cry happy tears.

This story has a strong believable heroine, and a man who has a lot of changing to do to deserve her. There’s adventure and great dialog throughout. Plus, happy tears. And seriously, I almost never cry at books. This one got me right in the feels.

Great Adventure

Not your usual story - a young child is abducted and raised in the Rookery. She survived by her wits. Then she was discovered by the Earl’s brother. Max, the Earl, was appalled at this dirty, ill mannered hellion. It was war from the start with Marlowe, our beautiful heroine, creating some really funny set downs for the Earl. I mean what was an Earl to do but fall deeply in love. The narrator was spot on and brought the story to life. Great accents and each character had their own voice. A perfect love story with a few moments of intrigue. Perfect ending ready for the next book in the series.

EXCELLANT NARRATION BY BEVELEY A. CRICK

Would you listen to Earls Just Want to Have Fun again? Why?

Yes because of the narrator

Would you recommend Earls Just Want to Have Fun to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes its a good story with a great narrator

Have you listened to any of Beverley A. Crick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes Its just as good as the other books I have listen to narrated by her.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Cry at the end when Marlowe and her mother sings together

Any additional comments?

I downloaded Earls Just Want To Have Fun because of the narrator Elizabeth A. Crick, she is one of the best narrators I have ever listen too on audible book. I was looking for other stories she narrated and came across Earls Just Want To Have Fun.

Lady Elizabeth Grafton was abducted at age 5 while playing in Hyde Park. She was tricked into playing kick ball and taken to live with a Flash Gang of thieves. 15 years later Sir Brook Derring who is know as the hero of Bow Street has been hired to find her and he does. He re kidnaps Elizabeth, AKA now know as Marlowe and throws her in a carriage with his brother Maxwell Derring the Earl of Dane. Maxwell is asked to take Marlowe to there home and keep her there until his brother Brook can notify the Marquess of Lyndon and Lady Lyndon that he has found there long lost missing daughter. This begins a Madcap adventure of Marlowe upsetting the refined dignified household of the Earl of Dane. It's the beginning of a snob falling in love with his lesser or a person he believes is far below his own station in life.

I loved Elizabeth/Marlowe and I just wished the author had spent more time on letting the reader see the relationship develop between Marlowe and her Long lost Parents. This doesn't happen until the very end of the story. The ending is rushed and the next thing you read after she meets her parents is she is married to the Earl. There is no real thought given to what could have been a great ending. Thus 4 stars instead of 5.

ignore the title

The title implies a brainless, spendthrift, shallow romance. The book actually carries characters with depth that gives credence to good plotline, and has very little to do with earls who just want to have fun.
so,,,, ignore the title and enjoy the book.
