Publisher's summary

The simple truth is proven that sometimes a gentleman never knows his heart until a lady comes along to introduce it to him. When Mr. Darcy encounters Elizabeth Bennet injured after a fall, his concern for her welfare cracks the shell of his carefully guarded heart, and a charming man emerges. Elizabeth sees an appealing side of him she never believed possible from the stoic, proud master of Pemberley. They find the simple gentlemanly act of assisting her home will test both Mr. Darcy’s resolve to keep his heart safe and Elizabeth’s conviction that this is the last man on earth she might have ever been prevailed upon to marry. Soon, falling for Mr. Darcy becomes a real possibility.

Lovely and Low Angst

An act of gentlemanly gallantry at the start of the story allows ODC to start off with fewer misunderstandings and therefore arrive on better terms very early. Likewise, Jane and Bingley don’t suffer an unnecessary separation so even their relationship is low angst. There is still villainy afoot with some of our usual suspects trying to harm or separate ODC, so the story is by no means boring.

With Jane relatively easily attached to Bingley, and no need for that misunderstanding, she is not the character that spends much of the story either sick, too reserved or reticent, melancholy or mean. This story, therefore, gives us a better view of the relationship between the sisters, giving Jane a chance to be warm and even funny.

I’d say my only complaint would be that, given the way the story is assembled, Mr.Collins really didn’t need to be so awful as a prospective suitor for any of our heroines. Even with the interesting twist Mr. Bennet brings to the story, Mr. Collins is just a little more over the top than needed.

David Pickering is wonderful as a narrator in the story as well.

Great Chemistry and Humor

I love the dialogue between the charcters. So much wit! I also loved the chemistry between Elizabeth and Darcy. This book also had a very refreshing take on the character of Mr Bennett that I can appreciate. Well worth the read!

Delightfully Extraordinary Read!

I loved the twists and humor in this story. As with the original there were misunderstandings and incorrect conclusions by Elizabeth and Darcy, but their actions and dialogue did not go to the extreme drawing out the emotions. I realize this is what makes the original so appealing, and I love the original, but this was a nice change!

Wonderful narrator!

Excellent excellent excellent narration. One of the best narrators I’ve encountered, and he did the colorfully sketched personalities justice in his reading of this delightful story.

Falling for David Pickering

I adore all of KaraLynne Mackrory’s books, and Falling for Mr. Darcy is one of her best works. When she added the voice of David Pickering to the story, it’s pure entertainment. He pours life into the characters, even the despicable bad guys (like Wickham).

Mr. Bennet is portrayed as a loving, sensible father in this variation, who has saved dowry funds for those daughters who choose love over other marriage considerations. I really liked that twist.

okay

I thought this was an interesting take on my favorite book. It is definitely not Jane Austen.

Very sweet story

Mr Bennet is such a kind and loving father in this story and Mr Wickam gets what he deserves.

What a great twist on the original

This is a really fun listen, the narration took me a while to adapt to because the reader voices characters in a much older tone of voice than they are... so that was a little weird. But once I got used to it, it's fine. I like that this story starts at the point where the characters start building trust rather than half of the story building up angst and half building trust. I like it because you get a lot more witty dialogue between the main characters and you get a bit more insight into support characters.

The dialogue in this variation is great, there are so many witty one liners throughout. I seriously laughed many, many times throughout the book. It also borrows a lot of dialogue from the original, which I really like in PPV stories. One thing that this author did which I really liked was have familiar phrases from the OG stated by different characters in this book. It was a great mix up,

I'm not a die-hard deep PPV reader, but I seem to have been on a kick the past few months. I'd say over the past couple years I've read/listened to about 12 or 15? And of those I'd say this one is up in the top 1/3? I'd definitely say it is worth a credit, the narration was the only factor that kept me from giving it 5 stars, and as I said, the reader is good I just think his performace was way too old for the age set of the characters.

Nice variation

I enjoyed listening to this variation although I prefer a more heated exchange between ODC. The story did not become interesting until halfway through. The narrator did not choose a great voice/tone for Lizzy - it was a bit distracting. A few nice twists in this variation.
