Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy has a secret. The letter he presented to Miss Elizabeth Bennet after his ghastly proposal is not the only epistle he has written her. In this tale of longing, misadventure, and love, Jane Austen’s dearly loved Pride and Prejudice, is readapted as our hero has learned a powerful way of coping with his attraction to Miss Bennet. He writes her letters. The misguided suitor has declared himself, and Elizabeth Bennet has refused him, most painfully. Without ever intending for these letters to become known to any soul, Mr. Darcy relies on his secret for coping once again. However, these letters, should they land in the wrong hands, could amount to untold scandal, embarrassment, and possibly heartbreak. But what would happen should they fall into the right hands?

In this story Darcy starts writing letters to Elizabeth the night they first meet. Which doesn’t go well at all. But his letters are more of a cathartic release of longing for the woman who captivates him yet he cannot have. They are more diary than letters, and never to be sent by the writer. Oh gosh Boy, you got it bad.
The story takes most of its beginning from canon, until Darcy and Colonel Fitzwilliam find Elizabeth stranded at a coaching inn along with Maria Lucas after the coach leaves them behind. Elizabeth is convinced to allow them to take the ladies to London.
Darcy tells his cousin and sister about Elizabeth but having been so badly rejected he’s convinced he can’t ever approach her again. But he keeps writing those letters.
Yes, they get sent. And Elizabeth reads them, and falls hard herself. Whew!! She doesn’t see him until the Gardiners tour Derbyshire but this time when they meet at Pemberley her answer is YES before he even finishes asking.
The whole letter theme is so cute all the way through to the very end. Wonderfully romantic.
It’s a favorite re-listen now and before I had the audio it was a favorite reread. Highly recommended.

The choice of Brady Smith as the narrator for this beautiful story was equally brilliant. I have not encountered him before but hope to do so many more times. I have listened to books previously read where the narrator’s choices ended up changing the experience (and not in a good way). Mr. Smith’s interpretation was spot on, greatly enhancing the experience.
Do yourself a favor, and pull this one close!
Brilliant
