About this listen

Jane Austen’s beloved Pride and Prejudice is readapted in this regency tale of love in the face of tragedy. Mr. Darcy is thwarted in his attempt to propose to Elizabeth Bennet at Hunsford when he encounters her minutes after she receives the sad news from Longbourn of her sister’s death. His gallantry and compassion as he escorts her back to Hertfordshire begins to unravel the many threads of her discontent with him. While her family heals from their loss, Darcy must search London for answers - answers that might bring justice, but might also just mark the end of his own hopes with Elizabeth. Is it true that nothing can be lost that love cannot find?

Lovely story

I’ve read this book at least twice and listened to the audio version several times. Every repeat is pure joy. David Pickering‘s voice is distinctive and adds so much to the experience. His performance of Col. Fitzwilliam’s gruff manner of speaking is a favorite of mine. I can just picture him in my mind puffing up his chest and annoying Darcy. Thanks for writing a great variation.

Delightful!

I read this book when it was first written and I had forgotten how much I loved it until I listened to it now. Fantastic story line, so touching and romantic. Definitely swoon worthy and such witty banter between Darcy and Elizabeth. And the relationship between Mr and Mrs Bennet and even the Carroll’s at Darcy House!! Be still my heart. My thanks to Mr Pickering for bringing these beloved characters of Mrs Mackrory to life.

Very well written.

I have to say I loved the fact that Lydia wasn't the issue with the family. I loved that the story had either E and D was the total center. I love the storyline was how to think or act for the others interest.

Really loved this story

I highly recommend this book to a Jane Austen fan fiction lover. The narrator was great as well as the story well written. Mr Darcy is interrupted while trying to propose by some dreadful news. Elizabeth’s sister has fallen ill. He escorts her to Hertfordshire. Loved it.

Another success for Karalynne McCrory

I’m not a big fan of angst, but fortunately it doesn’t last long. I love versions where the Hunsford proposal is averted & Darcy gets to improve at his own impetus. It seems to soften Lizzy so she is not as quick tempered. Love Mr & Mrs Bennett’s story.

Interesting

I really liked this story. The author is excellent in her grammar and storytelling skills. She has an interesting approach to the Bennett family. They have quite a change in personality after the death of one of their daughters - a change for the better. Elizabeth does not spend the entire book hating Darcy. Colonel Richard F. is his usual take charge kind of man. Georgianna begins to come out of her shy shell. There is very little about Caroline, the Collins and Lady Katherine. Wickham is his usual dispicable self. The narrator is fantastic. I love his Darcy voice and he also does extremely well with women's voices. He has great expressions and timing. I recommend this book to all the Jane Austen fans, and anyone else who likes to be entertained with a great book that is exceptionally well performed.

Very Good

I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning listening to this audiobook. I love David Pickering. His narration and performance is always excellent, doing justice to both the male and females characters. Loved the story, sparing us from the common Hunsford proposal/refusal. A tragedy calling Elizabeth home ironically leads to many positive things, especially for Mr. and Mrs. Bennet. It’s refreshing to not have Mrs. B always so hateful to Elizabeth.
