About this listen

Inspirational Readers Choice Award winner Cathy Marie Hake, CBA best-selling author of Bittersweet , blends wholesome humor and timeless truth into historical novels that ring with authenticity. When 17-year-old Lady Sydney Hathwell arrives in 1890 New York City, she never imagines she'll soon be galloping about the Wild West, unchaperoned - and dressed as a man. Honoring her father's dying wish, Sydney journeys from England to consider marrying Manhattan businessman Rexall Hume. After finding him unsuitable, she reveals her verdict. But with Hume insisting on marrying her anyhow, she seeks refuge with her estranged uncle. Disguising herself as an Englishman, Sydney flees the city on a westbound train. But when it's clear her uncle has no use for a female on his Texas ranch, "nephew Fancy Pants" continues the ruse. As unexpected developments unfold, Sydney fears her deception may jeopardize friendship, family, and much more.©2007 Cathy Marie Hake (P)2008 Recorded Books,LLC Fiction Historical Historical Fiction Romance New York Witty Feel-Good Funny Heartfelt

funny

Quite an engaging tale of women from a past era, expectations, formalities, and such...finishing Part 1 of this story I am looking forward to the next part...it has made me laugh out loud!

Christian Historical Romance

While the beginning and the ruse was hard to bear, by the time her secret is out, it only gets... harder? She's lost her best friend and is afraid of being all alone in this world, but he finally comes to grips with his feelings for her after she turns her life over! A magical ending, whoops, that's not what happens next, either! I guess you'll just have to read it for yourself!
I enjoyed the narration, but there were a few times I couldn't distinguish who was talking by the voice alone.

Narration was lively, however…

The story just seemed to go on too long. Hero was a preachy, condescending know-it-all who held zero appeal. I liked him Less as the story went along and could not understand the attraction the heroine professed to have for him. Despite that, the writing was actually good and provided a few laugh out loud moments. So it’s basically a 3 star read for me.

Disappointed

Started off funny and wholesome. Became very churchy in a judgment sort of way. Would have you believe Sidney was an atheist and simpleton when it came to God and religion but the opinionated judge mental cowboy could turn her around. Please!

Author has religious agenda

Any additional comments?

As a secularist, I would have appreciated someone describing the book containing long passages about the value of knowing Jesus and discussing bible quotations. I'm sure this is great for some readers, but it's not for everyone.

This s is a sweet predictable story. a little bibal thumping. I could see John Wayne as the hero. easy listening. If you want a heavier read this will not satisfy you.

Great!

"Fancy Pants" was a great listen! The speaker had a great voice and used a variety of voices for the characters. It was a very smooth transition between people.
