About this listen

This enormously eccentric book takes listeners on a crazy journey with renowned gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson.

The Curse of Lono is to Hawaii what Fear and Loathing was to Las Vegas: the crazy tales of a journalist's "coverage" of a news event that ends up being a wild ride to the dark side of Americana. Originally published in 1983, The Curse of Lono features all of the zany, hallucinogenic wordplay for which Hunter S.Thompson became known and loved. This curious book, considered an oddity among Hunter's oeuvre, is a widely sought-after treasure.

Awesome story and great narration. Very funny ending. HST takes his act from Puerto Rico (The Rum Diary) to Vegas (Fear and Loathing), then brings it to Hawaii in this masterpiece.

Great story from the best to ever do it

I almost didn't finish because it just lost me but in the end I really enjoyed it

almost lost me

A typically HST winding story, absurdist behavior, sometimes macho or misogynist, yet terribly enjoyable. the lengths Thompson goes to tell an immediately gratifying and harsh story. too immersive to think about where any of it is going.
the reading is very good.

"okay" HST

A great read. Strange yet hilarious at points. Mostly a fun read for a winter day. Even complaints of the worst vacation ever sound better than trudging through a foot of snow.

Classic Thompson... well. Close to classic.

If you’re a H.S. Thompson fan this is a fun, easy, & interesting story not to be skipped. Set in Hawaii with classic, unhinged Thompson characters, & unexpected history about the state seamlessly woven into the narrative, along with the sharp cultural & political commentary H.S.T is so brilliant at. Great & entertaining summer vacation listen.

As a native Hawaiian, I really appreciate the telling of his tale through his lens
