Publisher's summary

"Do you believe Will took his own life?"

The question echoed off the white tiles in the hospital’s cold, cavernous morgue, and I studied my husband in peaceful repose. I leaned down and put my forehead against his. Silent tears ran down my cheeks. They felt hot, and he felt so cold. It was five days since his death, and my grief felt heavy, like a vast, dark mass pushing down on me.

When Maggie’s husband, Will, is shot dead in their London home, she thinks he is the victim of a burglary until the police tell her the shocking news that Will was the one who pulled the trigger.

Maggie is consumed with grief and questions. Will wasn’t suicidal. He had so much to live for.

After the funeral, Maggie travels to their holiday home on a small Croatian island to escape London. She finds a disturbing letter written by Will, containing clues to a dark secret.

As Maggie puts the pieces together, she discovers Will’s death is connected to someone from his past.... Someone who will go to extreme lengths to keep Maggie silent.

Three can keep a secret...if two of them are dead.

The international multimillion best-selling author of The Girl in the Ice is back with his first stand-alone thriller, a heart-racing, hold-your-breath listen that will keep you hooked until the very end.

Huge disappointment

One of my favorite authors and I have so many of his fantastic books. However, this book 📕 was a huge disappointment. The storyline and basis of this one would have been great but fizzled quickly. The damsel in distress became very old shortly into the story and lacked in character throughout . She could have been made innocent, as she was , but also strong, crafty, and interesting. The narrator was a delight!

Slow then rushed not very good

Love this author but I am disappointed with this book. Very slow to engage amd tell story behind story. Then it’s a huge rush at the end to wrap things up.

Excellent as usual

This may be his first stand alone book but it was just as good as every other one he's written. Highly recommended

Decent, if generic, plot with poor narration

Like many other reviews, I love the Erika Foster and Kate Marshal series. This one, however was a bit of a dud. The main protagonist was bland, frequently coming off as dim and irrational. The narration didn’t help as it made the internal dialog overly dramatic and irritating to listen to.

Good plot, awful narration.

Although I didn’t find this book up to the quality I normally expect, the story line was interesting. The reveal was somewhat anticlimactic, the heroine a little on the clueless side. I may have enjoyed this more had I read it, the narrator made the main character sound 87 instead of 47. Her attempt at masculine voices was cringey.

Loved the book! Loved the narration!

Robert Bryndza (one of my favorite authors) has knocked it out of the park. Again. And the narrator, Jilly Bond, brought it to dramatic, white-knuckle life. My hat is off to both of them.

Slow at first

Picked up about midway. Didn't care for the narrator..kept picturing Maggie as a frumpy 60 yr old.

Good story. Needed different reader.

The reader was too old to be reading this as a 40 something woman. Didn’t like her attempt at doing the men’s parts either.
