About this listen

The unmissable and highly anticipated new literary thriller from the author of the international phenomenon The Girl with All the Gifts.

Fellside is a maximum security prison on the edge of the Yorkshire Moors. It's not the kind of place you'd want to end up. But it's where Jess Moulson could be spending the rest of her life.

It's a place where even the walls whisper.

And one voice belongs to a little boy with a message for Jess.

Will she listen?

Where does Fellside rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I'm a huge fan of police procedurals, Fellside falls into my top 10 for non-police procedurals. Also enjoyed The Girl With Many Gifts.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The main character, Jess, can't really say why. All the characters are well drawn.

Have you listened to any of Finty Williams’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I think Finty Williams is great, great sense of timing, emotion, brings vivid images to mind, I also think has a special knack for doing child parts.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

MR Carey has an amazing imagination, while both books are a little out of the norm they're perfectly believable.

Any additional comments?

Great story, great narration.

Looking forward to many more by MR Carey

Really enjoyed this story. Compelling characters, and, for me, totally believable premise. Narration was spot-on and have credibility to the story. Unlike other reviewers, I feel the ending was the only plausible one.

Gripping

Girl With All the Gifts was such a creative fresh, literary, and deep take on zombies - I really enjoyed it. This book was also extremely creative, but in a quieter way. It's odd, and the oddness creeps up on you slowly. There are no zombies in this book, and it takes place in a much more accessible/normal setting, and with a much more relateable protagonist than in Girl With All the Gifts. I preferred Fellside, and keep thinking about it.

I will be honest and say the story isn't the best in the world - pretty played out woman protagonist / idiot male archetypes used throughout. There are some interesting twists in the book, but they come in almost too late to add real depth to the story. However, I ADORE the narrator (and wish she narrated more adult books) and was thoroughly entertained listening. In short: This is a great buy if you are looking for slightly more vapid entertainment.

Entertaining, not thought provoking.

Despite the so-so reviews of this book, I bought it based on how much I enjoyed The Girl With All The Gifts. It was way better than I expected. It's not great, but I enjoyed it very much.
The writing style is excellent. The pace is spot-on, and the narration is stellar. Overall I enjoyed this book very much.

Much better than expected

I wept, I cheered, I laughed, & I wept some more. M.R. Carey's gorgeously fluid use of descriptive language is perfectly paired with Flinty Williams! I will officially read ANYTHING they collaborate on. And I love a good ghost story, very original spin on an old theme.

Another M.R. Carey winner!

This Dynamic collaboration by M.R Carey and narrated by Finty Williams was such a treat to listen to. From the author of The girl with all the gifts, and The Boy on the bridge, this is anothet must listen to. Ms. Williams is one of my favorite narrators and I couldn't imagine anyone else performing this story.

Couldn't stop listening

I needed to push through the first one-third of this book. Once Moulson made it to the prison though, the real story began.

A slow start...

weird book. became slightly predictable but had a lot of just bizarre twists too. the main characters were not likable. there were a lot of wtf moments. I didn't recommend it to anyone and probably won't.

It was ok.

Very interesting story, but some of the torture scenes were VERY DIFFICULT for me to get through. If it was a regular book, I could have skimmed and skipped by my through those parts, but you don't really have that option with audiobooks.

Good story, too graphic sometimes
