About this listen

Grace Rossi is starting over after a divorce, and a part-time job with a federal appeals court sounds perfect. But she doesn't count on being assigned to an explosive death penalty appeal. Nor does she expect ardor in the court in the form of an affair with the chief judge. Then Grace finds herself investigating a murder, unearthing a secret bank account and following a trail of bribery and judicial corruption that's stumped even the FBI. In no time at all, Grace under fire takes on a whole new meaning.

Critic reviews

"Scottoline, an Edgar nominee for her first book, Everywhere That Mary Went, has again pulled together an intriguing cast of characters and a smart mystery to make an exciting, action-packed read." (Publishers Weekly)

I am a fan. I love Lisa's novels. This would get a 5 if not for the winces I experienced for expressions of naivete that were inconsistent with the character. And, honestly, the general public. Intermittent incredulous ('Would he REALLY...?!') reactions sabotaged the tone of entire interactions.
I'm always offended with disrespect for other's beliefs on any level. 'Jesus', 'Christ', and derivatives are frequently used as an expletive. I don't tolerate this any more than racism or antisemitism.

5 if not for intermittent naivete

I got through this book in one day; it is interesting, dramatic, keeps the reader guessing. A good story for anyone who likes mystery, whodunnits, detective work. Well performed.

Fast paced drama

I thought the whole book was entertaining and captured the thriller aspect of advertised genre. But once the climax of the book was finished the whole book just ended. It was kind of like reading a letter with no or little closing.

Poor ending

Endeavor is Scottoline’s best novel that I have heard, but Final Appeal has much that will appeal mainly to mothers like me: with children and also dogs in their lives. This story has a handsome man who is a killer of a judge. He dates the mom but she has no idea what a bad person he is until the end when he points a gun at her and demands that she jump from the window of a tall court house building. She bravely talks to him despite her fear into coming closer to the open window and then as he does she picks up a stick and hits him with it such that he trips and falls out the open window to his death below. She is taken to hospital unconscious but when she awakens her mother is there. She recovers and returns home and we assume her life will continue to be full of happiness and success as a lawyer and mother.

Final Appeal Has A Lawyer Mom, With A Young Daughter, and A Dog Who Solves Who Killed A Judge. Set in Philadelphia,

I like Lisa Scottolines books a lot; just found them . I like the characters in this book a lot and would like to read about them more; I had a really hard time with the cadence of the narrator; the reading was clear but so rushed it made me anxious at times

Good little story
